    Functional Skills Tutor:
    ApprenticeshipsHob Apprenticeship Academy CamdenSalary: £32,000 (pro-rata)

    Days of work:

    Monday - Wednesday (22.Academy Based/Workplace Visits (as required)/Remote (as required) Job summary This is an exciting opportunity to work as a Functional Skills Tutor at the Hob Apprenticeship Academy in Camden.

    Due to expansion, we are currently looking for an inspirational tutor to teach Functional Skills English and Maths at Levels 1 and 2 on our Hair and Barbering Apprenticeship programmes.

    The role is 3 days per week, Monday-Wednesday As a Functional Skills tutor, you will:


    • Plan lessons that are contextualised, with transferrable skills for added value learning
    • Provide support to the Apprenticeship team in the delivery of our Apprenticeship programmes using various Functional Skills education resources / materials.
    • Facilitate teaching and providing feedback and support.
    • Produce timely reports to the Apprenticeship vocational team and providing informed progress reports to the Essential Skills Manager
    • Provide a Functional Skills provision for all Apprentices requiring English and/or Maths qualification, taking them from their pre-apprenticeship level to Level 1 and/or Level 2.

    Main duties of the job:

    • Conducting assessments to identify each Apprentice's specific skills gaps and learning needs
    • Supporting with the embedding of Functional Skills into taught sessions on practice-based topics
    • Teaching and assessing Functional Skills English/Maths on the Apprenticeship programmes
    • Developing and maintain comprehensive schemes of work (SoW)
    • Delivering high quality group instructional sessions in English and Math's, using varied teaching methodologies to accommodate diverse learning styles and adapt teaching materials and resources to suit the developing needs of the learners
    • Developing comprehensive lesson plans that include interactive sessions, hands-on activities, and assessment, which should be reviewed and updated on a regular basis
    • Supporting the timely achievement of the Apprenticeship standard, ensuring Apprentices meet their Gateway target and taking responsibility for all the required Functional Skills components
    • Supporting the apprenticeship delivery team within curriculum areas to embed Functional Skills in schemes of work and lesson plans
    • Managing a caseload of learners,' monitor and track progress through our e-portfolio system and providing constructive feedback to support for improvement
    • Providing classroom assistance to the Apprenticeship Assessors with learners particularly those that require additional one-to-one support or where there are significant gaps in learning in relation to English and Maths skills
    • Contributing to the induction of new staff to develop knowledge and skills for their role
    • Responsible for the management of Functional Skills registers and evidence uploaded from start until completion
    • Carrying out interventions when the Apprentice is falling behind, is late or has poor attendance, providing support to bring them back on track
    • Maintain detailed records of the Apprentice's progress, attendance, and other essential data.
    • Following up on actions to ensure compliance and reporting any problems to the Compliance Team
    • Liaising with the Admin team to book learners onto exams and act as an invigilator for apprenticeship/ Functional Skills qualifications (where applicable)
    • Assisting with preparation for teaching sessions including organising the printing and setting up the classroom
    • Creating and maintaining a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages the Apprentice's engagement and participation in learning standards Qualifications / Experience / KnowledgeEssential
    • Strong knowledge of functional skills curriculum development and assessment strategies.
    • Ability to plan, organise and prioritise own workload
    • Experience of delivering Functional Skills as part of a vocational qualification/ apprenticeships
    • Ability to plan, tailor and facilitate Functional Skills sessions to meet both the programme requirement and individual learner needs
    • Experience of delivering Functional Skills to learners with learning needs and or disabilities
    • GCSE at grade 4 or higher in English and Maths or equivalent qualification (supported by a NARIC/ENIC if achieved overseas)
    • Proven experience as a functional skills tutor with Adult learners facilitating in a group and one to one environment.
    • Proven experience as a Functional Skills tutor with young people and adults facilitating learning in a group and one-to-one setting
