    An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band B7 Occupational Therapist to join CLCH's well established Unplanned Care (D2A/RR) Team based in Edgware Community Hospital, Barnet, North London.

    The successful applicant will receive regular supervision; have access to a wide range of development opportunities to support their continued professional development. There are also monthly peer support groups and regular appraisals. There is opportunity for you to gain a wide perspective in a range of clinical areas and new ways of working offering you the opportunity to develop your supervisory skills, to work with a knowledgeable range of professionals and also to contribute to service development.

    Main duties of the job

    The successful post holders should have a Bsc/Msc in Occupational Therapy and current HCPC membership. They should be highly organised with excellent verbal and written communication skills, evidence and experience of being able to assess Occupational Therapy needs, set goals and formulate treatment plans, with sound clinical knowledge and proven experience in acute and community clinical environments. You will need to be adaptable to operate in a fast moving environment and have the clinical skills and ability to function in a larger team. .

    He/she will participate in seven day working Rota and have an ability to work hours per week.

    Job responsibilities

  • To comply with all the organisational and departmental policies and procedures. To contribute to discussions on service/policy development and provide comments on proposals and to propose changes where required.
  • To be responsible for equipment used in carrying out occupational therapy duties and to adhere to departmental equipment policy, including competence to use equipment. To ensure the safe use of equipment by others through teaching, training, and supervision of practice.
  • To decide priorities for your own work area, balancing other patient related and professional demands and ensure that these remain in accordance with those of the department.
  • Be aware of the Health and Safety aspects of your work and implement any policies which may be required to improve the safety of your work area, including the prompt recording, and reporting of accidents and incidents to senior staff.
  • To be responsible for the equipment used during treatment and to maintain stock control and assist in the ordering of supplies as necessary.
  • To be responsible for ensuring the effective selection and use of all treatment resources available in all situations.

    Person Specification

    Education/Qualification

    Essential

  • Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Registration with the Health Professional Council
  • Post-graduate training in Approaches to Rehabilitation/Cognitive rehabilitation/Neurological rehabilitation or equivalent.
  • Desirable

  • Masters level study
  • Experience

    Essential

  • A minimum of 5 years post-graduate experience with a minimum of 2 years in older peoples/rehabilitation and Community services
  • Experience in working with people with complex health and social issues
  • Experience in working collaboratively across agencies in planning care for people
  • Experience in assessing for assistive technology including wheelchairs and ADL equipment
  • Experience in planning complex discharges, co-ordinating services and resources
  • Experience in working with adults in their own home
  • Experience of supervising/managing junior and assistant staff
  • Desirable

  • Rotational experience at Band 5 or Band 6 level in acute trusts and community services
