Description

Hackney Council is looking for someone with a background in private sector housing to help make a difference to tenants' lives.

As Principal Private Sector Housing Officer, you will play a lead role in improving housing in Hackney.

Housing is a top priority for us, this is an exciting opportunity to step into a management role and support our innovative new approach.

One in three households in Hackney now rents in the private sector. Housing across London is experiencing unprecedented pressure, with rents rocketing as demand increases. Hackney's Mayor has pledged to tackle poor conditions and management concerns.

We are getting tough on rogue landlords and making agents fulfil their duties using new powers and expanded licensing schemes.

We need people like you - keen to make a difference, who understand the impact housing issues have on the health and wellbeing of residents.

You will help us respond to our customers' needs, providing services on-line to make our response more accessible and efficient.

You will use a wide range of data and intelligence to target enforcement on properties and landlords where it matters most.

The outcome of this work can transform lives. Alongside enforcement, our active grants programme allows disabled and vulnerable residents to remain independent in their own homes. We help prevent homelessness by helping tenants stay in their homes.

Above all, you will be part of our team working to ensure private sector housing is safe and well managed for the people living there.

Day to day you will provide advice and guidance on housing legislation.

You will ensure your team strive to provide an excellent service to residents, and that our procedures are carried out correctly.

You will help the Team Manager put in place solutions for the complex issues faced.

You will also be responsible for ensuring your team meets any targets and deadlines and are up to date with new guidelines and best practice.

You must have the skills and enthusiasm to help create a high performing team. We need someone able to promote this work internally and with external agencies.

You must have experience of private sector housing in a local authority context, have a solid understanding of the relevant legislation and be ready to take on a management role.

You will also need a Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health or equivalent.

Hackney is one of the UK's highest performing local authorities, serving one of London's best places to live and work.

We have achieved a huge amount:
our services, our schools, our public spaces are all amongst the very best. We have changed the reputation, not just of the Council, but of Hackney itself.

Bringing jobs and investment into the borough, securing the legacy from the 2012 Games, and making this a place of which we can all be proud.

The recruitment process is anonymous. Therefore, we do not accept supporting statements or CVs.

to be confirmed

We are also working towards our vision, which is to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud; a place that celebrates diversity and where everyone can feel valued, included and involved.
