    The role
    As a Civil Design Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You'll help direct allocated design and CAD resources in the delivery of conceptual and detailed civil and structural engineering design.

    Day to day, you'll undertake the production of plans / drawings / documentation, planning and organising activities and resources to meet programme deadlines.

  • Support the planning, undertaking and supervision of site investigations and surveys as necessary
  • Prepare feasibility reports, technical reports, and technical submissions for physical works
  • Monitor progress of works within the team, advising the Design Manager at agreed periodicities, and agreeing alterations to programmes of work or working patterns
  • Assist with design / checking and production of estimates / target prices and programmes of work for proposed work
  • Carry out designs and checks for engineering schemes ensuring full compliance with current British & European Standards, Codes of Practice and Railway Group Standards and Procedures
  • In consultation with the Design Manager: allocate roles, responsibilities and production activities within the design team.
  • This role is full time, 35-hours per week. Agile working from home is available to employees, providing that the overriding business needs can be appropriately met. You'll need to be willing and able to attend our offices in the McClaren Building in Birmingham, as required . Occasional travel to other sites (with occasional overnight stays) as required.

    Experience of the Civil Design Engineer

  • Post graduate design experience is desirable but not critical
  • Computer literate and experienced in design software
  • Knowledge of TEDDS (or similar), GEO5 and CADPiles – desirable but not critical
  • Knowledge of Microstation, ProjectWise, AutoCAD desirable but not critical
  • Qualifications for the Civil Design Engineer

  • Recognised technical qualifications - Engineering Degree (Civil or Structural)
  • Security Clearance
    The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) / Developed Vetting (DV) / Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) security clearance for this role.
