This is a full time permanent post and the hours are worked 9 to 5 Monday to Friday


The Specialist Practitioner in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is a key member of the multidisciplinary psychotherapy team and would be expected to provide clinical leadership for their professional discipline within the team and support psychodynamic psychotherapy developments in the sector and within GG&C.


The post-holder will be expected to work as an integrated member of the psychotherapy team to fulfil its key functions.

The post-holder provides specialist psychodynamic therapy, which will include mentalization-based therapy, to patients, through work with individuals, groups in collaboration with the patient, to determine the most appropriate treatment option.

To carry out psychodynamic assessment of patients with complex needs, arrive at a specialist psychodynamic formulation, and to communicate this model of understanding in a skilled and sensitive manner to other staff groups in order to support the patient's care.


The post-holder will also have responsibility for leading on professional profession specific clinical governance activity, which will include the setting and monitoring of standards of care in the service, responding to complaints, staff support, career long learning, continuous professional development, clinical supervision and the implementation of policy and clinical guidelines.

In addition to managerial remit the post-holder will carry individual areas of responsibility as a specialist clinician. These areas of individual responsibility will be agreed with the Senior Adult Psychotherapist and Consultant Psychiatrist in Psychotherapy.
