Applications are invited for the above fixed-term, Postdoctoral Research Officer posts, within the School of Educational Sciences, Bangor University.

  • Language and education: Welshmedium education, bilingual education, language and literacy,
  • Ages and stages: early years education, postcompulsory education, vocational education and training, HE teaching and learning, professional learning,
  • Issues in education: pupil motivation, Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Additional Learning Needs (ALN), school effectiveness, and mentoring.
The ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh is desirable for this role.

The Project


Based in the School of Educational Sciences, we are seeking 5.0 FTE Research Officers (either full-time or part-time) to work on a range of educational research projects of national and international significance.

The post-holders will be based at Bangor University and join the vibrant research community within the University. They will also collaborate closely with project partners at other institutions, and with other stakeholders.

The post-holders will report to the various project leads in the School of Educational Sciences at Bangor University.

Purpose of the Job

  • Take a significant role in conducting rigorous research.
  • Take a lead role in planning ethics and data collection for projects.
  • Take a lead role in data collection and collation.
  • Play an integral part in both quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
  • Support the writing of high impact peerreviewed papers and support a range of dissemination and impact generating practices.

Responsibilities:

To work as a key part of the research team in conducting research.


This could include:

  • Acquiring and maintaining a thorough and up to date knowledge of the peerreviewed literature related to specific research projects.
  • Recruiting participants.
  • Collecting and analysing quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Pursuing relevant funding opportunities.
  • To work as part of the research team in delivering research outcomes.
  • Contributing towards the creation of reports and publication in research journals, and helping in the preparation of materials for presentation to conferences.

Research project administration activities:

  • Liaising closely with project schools, organising project meetings, coordinating research ethics and funder paperwork as necessary.

Person Specification

Qualifications/Training

Essential

  • PhD (or near completion) in a relevant area (e.g. education, psychology, educational research, evidencebased approaches, implementation science).Experience/Knowledge
Essential

  • An applied understanding of delivering effective educational support for primary aged pupils and staff.
  • Previous research experience relevant to education.
  • Previous experience designing and conducting applied research.
  • A track record of writing and contributing to publications for peerreviewed journals.
  • The ability to undertake qualitative data collection and analysis.
Desirable

  • Experience of delivering conference presentations and/or delivering stakeholder training or dissemination sessions.
Skills/Abilities

Essential

  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written skills (in English).
  • Demonstrate good analytical skills, ability to analyse numerical data and present results appropriately.
  • Demonstrate the ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines.
  • Demonstrate ability to work as part of a team.
  • Proven experience of working with a variety of individuals utilising effective interpersonal skills.
Desirable

  • Demonstrate proven project management skills.
  • Demonstrate good computer skills, including MS Office, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Demonstrate good skills in SPSS or similar statistical analysis software.
  • A valid driving license or demonstration of the ability to successfully undertake the travel required to perform the duties of the role.
