Since our conception in 2004, parkrun has evolved into a global social movement with a vibrant and inclusive community at its core.

As of 2024, we have recorded over 100-million instances of walking, jogging, running, and volunteering.


Our mission is to transform lives by empowering people to be active, together, outdoors in their local community; and to protect parkrun for the generations to come.

Each and every weekend, we deliver free, weekly timed events that people of all ages and backgrounds can join in.

By tackling barriers to participation, we encourage communities to come together and embrace regular physical activity.


Now in its 20th year parkrun spans over 2,300 locations in 22 countries with more than 9 million people registered, and counting.


And we have really only just begun.

About the role:

We're looking for a digital expert to help take parkrun to the next level.

The first requirement for the Head of Digital and Data Transformation will be to set the digital transformation strategy and to help us understand what we need and how we can make our current systems work harder for us.


You'll be responsible for maintaining, developing & implementing the technologies that support and ignite the achievement of parkrun's strategy and for future-proofing the technology that underpins our organisation.


This role will play a crucial part in developing the technology infrastructure that on a weekly basis enables c300,000 participants to receive their results, supports sign-ups for volunteers and enables c30,000 new people to register.


Key Responsibilities:


Digital Strategy Development:


  • Develop and articulate a comprehensive digital transformation strategy aligned with parkrun's overall goals.
  • Identify opportunities for digital innovation and present a clear roadmap for implementation.
  • Create a technical vision and roadmap with supporting architecture that reflects the needs of the organisation now and in the future that is compelling to and understood by the wider organisation.

Change Management:


  • Lead and manage the change process associated with digital transformation initiatives.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to foster a shared understanding of digital across the organisation.

Day to day:


  • To ensure that the missioncritical daytoday operation of the current technology infrastructure operates to support our weekly events and registrations.
  • To ensure that the websites and social media platforms are optimised to reflect the brand and support each parkrunner's journey, whilst optimising the revenue opportunities.

Cross-functional Collaboration:


  • Work closely with departments across the organisation, including, event delivery, communications, commercial and finance, to ensure a cohesive approach to digital transformation.
  • Facilitate collaboration and communication between teams to achieve transformation goals.

Technology Infrastructure Enhancement:


  • Assess and optimise the organisation's technology infrastructure to support digital initiatives.
  • Oversee the implementation of new technologies and systems to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • To ensure the technology systems are secure and compliant with relevant regulations in the jurisdictions in which parkrun operates.

Data analytics and insights:


  • To oversee the data analytics function to enable the vast data set held by parkrun to provide the necessary insights and information to drive the strategy.
  • To develop appropriate management information data sets and KPIs in which to measure the technology performance.
  • Managing technological & security risks and updating risk register accordingly.
  • Oversee data protection and data compliance as per the role of the Data Protection officer.

Customer Experience Optimisation:


  • Identify opportunities to enhance the digital customer experience across various touchpoints.
  • Implement strategies to improve user engagement, seeking feedback from our engaged community of parkrunners where possible.

Project Management:


  • Oversee digital transformation projects from initiation to completion.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with strategic objectives.

Vendor Management:


  • Collaborate with external vendors and partners for the procurement, funding and implementation of digital projects and solutions.
  • Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and performance.

Ideal Skills and Experience:


  • Proven track record of developing and implementing technology strategy & guiding investment decisions to achieve organisational objectives through technology solutions.
