    PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

  • Due to continued success, our well established, Planning & Infrastructure Consenting practice has an opportunity for a passionate Associate to join the Leeds or Manchester team on an initial 12-month fixed term contract.
  • You will act, with the support of the wider team, on a range of high-value and complex planning and infrastructure matters including those for household names and other listed organisations.

  • THE TEAM

  • Located within the Real Estate group, the Planning and Infrastructure Consenting Team works nationally across 5 locations; London, Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow, comprising of 14 lawyers (including 5 Partners), plus paralegals and trainees.
  • The work of the group is of excellent quality, varied and involves providing comprehensive and pro-active advice on the full range of planning issues with a particular focus on transport, energy, housing and urban regeneration. We also have market-leading planning litigation practice.
  • The Team has seen major growth in its work in the infrastructure promotion space during the last few years and is advising clients in the transport and energy sectors on Development Consent, Transport and Works and Compulsory Purchase Orders advising major utilities and infrastructure providers.
  • The team sits within the wider Real Estate group and works collaboratively on large-scale, complex matters, creating a unified approach for our clients.
  • You will work as part of an established team, with a significant track record of internal promotion and career development. We are committed to supporting and providing progression opportunities at all levels across the Firm.
  • What to expect in this role

  • You will work on a wide variety of development and infrastructure projects, and you can expect the work to include: drafting and negotiating planning and highways agreements in the context of a wide range of urban development projects including housing, mixed-use, office and logistics schemesassisting with the review of planning applications including environmental impact assessmentsadvising on Transport and Works Act and Development Consent Orders particularly in the transport and energy sectorssupporting the management of public inquiry processes.
  • You will work closely with partners and senior lawyers in the team and can expect to have significant levels of responsibility.

    To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Have at least 12 months experience of advising on planning and infrastructure consenting matters although we appreciate that candidates may have experience only of development planning or infrastructure consenting or have specialised more in one than the other.
  • Be a confident stakeholder manager, with evidenced experience of engaging with internal and external stakeholders of all levels.
  • Adopt a consultative and thorough approach to tasks.
  • Maintain efficient diary and task management across a range matters, maintain the accuracy and levels of client service expected within a high performing team.
  • Be confident in drafting clear and legally effective documents, which reflect the client's instructions.
  • Remain calm and optimistic in time sensitive situations or under pressure.
  • Be enthusiastic about the development of your legal skill set and continuous learning.
