Job Introduction

In this role, you will be responsible for leading the delivery of technology projects, working as part of the New Scientist Technology team, and alongside the Technology Director, to ensure our development team is able to deliver the most efficient and effective work in support of the business priorities.

You will be the key interface between Technology and the business, ensuring Technology is delivering on the most valuable business priorities to deliver the business strategy.

You will be responsible for working with the business on scoping and prioritising projects and requirements, and then with the Technology team to deliver them.

You will own the development and delivery of our Technology roadmap, managing multiple projects from conception to completion.

You will resource plan and manage the development processes supporting the effective working of the development team - taking the roadmap into sprint planning and delivery.

Working with senior stakeholders across the organisation, building relationships between the business and the tech function will be critical to success to be able to evaluate projects' requirements, effort, possibilities, and value.

You will have a good level of technical knowledge to understand systems, opportunities, impacts, and delivery requirements.

You will ensure that briefs, specs, and tickets are of sufficient quality to ensure developers have what they need when they need it to support efficient work and be regularly grooming the backlog in JIRA to ensure we are working on the right things at the right time.

This role will require strong stakeholder engagement and speak on a level with both the tech teams and the business.

Main Responsibilities

Own technology projects from conception to completion, managing all aspects of successful delivery from initial capture, scoping, and planning to enabling efficient development, to benefits realisation, and stakeholder management
Lead the interface with the business and be the first point of contact for them when sharing updates, gathering new requirements and refining scopes through structured sessions as well as receiving, assessing, and triaging adhoc requests
Gather the business requirements and provide these in clear and complete specs/tickets for the development team so they have a clear roadmap of these requirements
Own and manage the tech roadmap to reflect business priorities and team capacity
Through a robust understanding of the business strategy, you will prioritise projects and work for the team based on business value and complexity of delivery
Build relationships and delivery management with 3rd party providers where appropriate and required and represent NS in an external capacity
Participate in shaping sessions to help the team understand each project/piece of work from the business perspective and inform more accurate shaping use this information to inform roadmap and plan updates
Facilitate sprint planning to define the goals for the sprint across the whole team and the tickets to include based on roadmap/business value/capacity
Accountable for continuing to ensure work in flight drives the critical metrics and meets the needs of the business and customer
Project manage each project on the roadmap to ensure and own its delivery from ensuring a plan is in place, managing this plan using regular stand ups and meetings, understanding and ensuring handovers within the team as needed, communicating to business, and driving the delivery
Working alongside the Technology Director to ensure required technical knowledge in the planning and delivery, allowing the tech function to focus on technology delivery and team management and taking the responsibility of business lead, roadmap management, and project/delivery process management
