    Description
    This is a high profile role which involves working closely with the Arts Council to deliver Ministerial priorities, including promoting excellence, Levelling Up and increasing accessibility to the culture sector for everyone in England.

    As well as maintaining oversight of the Arts Councils delivery of Ministerial priorities, you will work with ACE to address emerging policy issues and facilitate productive relationships with ACE and various policy teams across the department.

    We are looking for someone who can work comfortable across multiple areas and is keen to help build capability where needed. This is a fast-paced and high profile area which attracts lots of attention from leaders, so the postholder will need to be confident working at pace, using their judgement independently and working effectively across Whitehall and with senior stakeholders to develop and deliver policy.

    Person specification

    The ideal candidate would have the following key skills and experience:

    Essential requirements:
    • Strong evidence of communicating and influencing, as you will have to work closely with Ministers, senior officials, and stakeholders across Government.
    • Strong evidence of seeing the big picture, as you will have to ensure policy is aligned with the wider Government agenda.
    • Strong evidence of making effective decisions, as you will need to make decisions based on robust evidence, and present reasoned conclusions to Ministers.
    • Strong evidence of delivering at pace, as you will often have to turn around products to tight deadlines, and manage multiple competing priorities. You will be expected to respond quickly and confidently to external pressures and Ministerial demands.
    Desirable skills:
    • Experience working with the culture sector
    • Previous experience working with arts organisations
    • Understanding of how Government works and its relationship with arms-length bodies
    • Experience working on Government funding programmes

    Further Information

    If the vacancy is offered as FTA/Loan, existing Civil Servants must join on a Loan basis only., Prior agreement to be released on loan must be obtained before commencing the application process. In the case of Civil Servants, the terms of the loan will be agreed between the home and host department and the Civil Servant. This includes grade on return.

    This role is full time only. Applicants who wish to work an alternative pattern are welcome to apply however your preferred working pattern may not be available and you should discuss this with the vacancy holder before applying.

    A reserve list may be held for a period of 6 months from which further appointments can be made.
