Job summary:


The Movements Cell administration officer will be part of a team responsible for maintaining and delivering all non-operational and non-military travel requirements.

From providing advice and cost estimates to cost capture managers, purchasing as an eGPC cardholder, adhering to financial regulations and policy.

The duty phone will be held in a rotation with the other members of the Movements cell for out of hours business.

This position is business critical to maintaining the operational effectiveness of the Unit.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

This is a full-time post.

However, requests for flexible, part-time working and job share will be considered, taking into account at all times the operational needs of the Department.


Job description:


Working within Hamworthy Barracks' as part of a team of three, the Job Holder will assist with the effective running, organisation and conduct of the Movements Cell in accordance with BR1283 Royal Marines Instructions, Joint Service Publication (JSP) 440 Defence Manual of Security and both Unit and Group Standing Orders.

A high-paced role that encompasses daily challenges; from providing advice and cost estimates to cost capture managers to daily contact with customers that require a myriad of movements services.


  • To liaise with outside agencies such as GBT (global business travel) and the armed forces HM Passport Office to maintain good relations and an optimum service to facilitate the unique Passport requirements for Unit personnel.
  • To book authorised nonoperational and nonmilitary travel requirements via GBT in accordance with policy and to provide advice and cost estimates for these travel requirements ensuring requests are complete and correctly authorised via the CCM (cost centre manager) prior to booking.
  • To maintain a comprehensive workbook on Oxygenic of all Unit travel bookings for the purpose of audit and make this available to CCMs and maintain an accessible archive of movements authorisation requests utilising the restore contract.
  • To supervise and develop the Movements team, provide support and guidance in all aspects of daily business whilst ensuring the Movements team are conversant with and adhering to financial regulations and policy.
  • To be a virtual eGPC cardholder to purchase travel related services in accordance with policy and the letter of delegation and maintain a transaction log which can be reconciled against the monthly card statement for passport and T&S payments
  • To be part of an out of hours service by means of a duty routine and mobile phone.
  • To issue NATO Travel Orders for ranks travelling to and via NATO countries

Person specification:


  • The job holder will be part of a department that is vital to the smooth running and operation of a large high tempo organisation. The position will require interaction with various members of the organisation, so a confident and articulate manner is essential both on the telephone and face to face. Good organisational skills and an ability to work under pressure and to deadlines are needed to ensure customer requirements are met and end of month returns are completed on time. As part of this, the ability to work as part of a team or on own initiative is also essential as is also the ability to prioritise ones' own workload. As there is a large amount of data and information that is processed, computer literacy is essential with a good working knowledge of Excel a desirable bonus. Alongside this, quickly learning and understanding various systems, process and procedures will go a long way to a smooth transition into the new job role.
