    An exciting opportunity has arisen in University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW) for substantive full-time consultant in Infectious Diseases (ID).

    UHCW are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed ID consultant. This appointment will be part of the drive to further expand and strengthen the already established ID unit at UHCW. Appointment will be made for one post to join a core of three ID consultants already employed at UHCW.

    The ID department is part of the Medicine Group and sits within the Department of Respiratory medicine. Further expansion of the consultant workforce forms part of the planned expansion of services within ID and the Department of Respiratory Medicine. The Trust will be strengthening links with community services across Coventry and Warwickshire and this post will play a significant role in this development. The post holder will also provide clinical support to the management of complex TB, HIV/AIDS and intensive care patients, as well as the significant numbers of patients receiving immunosuppressive therapy following transplantation and chemotherapy. The post holders will further develop close links with the GUM services provided by Coventry ISHS, and to participate in regional Infectious Diseases MDTs.

    Main duties of the job

    This new consultant post in Infectious Diseases has therefore been established to further develop the infectious disease services in Coventry. The post will be based at University Hospitals Coventry and will help implementation of best practice for management of HIV, TB and other infectious diseases including infections in returning travellers, multi-drug resistant infections and healthcare associated infections through direct clinical contact and co-ordination of other specialities such as the respiratory medicine and genitourinary medicine teams. There are already established close links with the Microbiology and Virology services though the pathology network for Coventry and Warwickshire.

    The three post holders will together provide inpatient ID services on a weekly basis (Monday to Friday) with the intention of ensuring daily consultant oversight on the ID ward. The ID ward has 24 beds. ID physician are lead the in-patient referral service for Infectious Diseases, deliver outpatient clinics and participate in running the CoPAT services. There are approximately 300 new referrals for outpatient clinics and 160 new referrals to TB service, approximately 800 follow ups in ID and 500 in TB outpatient clinics are seen annually. CoPAT service has current capacity for 30 patients at any given time.
