Description

We are at a pivotal moment: the climate and biodiversity crises are deepening, and inequalities are even more marked in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The global investment system has an oversized impact on many of these global challenges. We want to make sure that impact is positive. At ShareAction we work with investors, policymakers and individuals to unleash the positive potential of the investment system. We aim to build a world where our financial system serves our planet and its people.

The Team
Good health is important to us all, and to society. The Covid-19 pandemic shone a spotlight on how vital a healthy population is. Yet millions of people's lives are limited by ill-health.

Much of this is linked to avoidable risks such as unhealthy food options, excessive alcohol consumption, poor quality jobs and insecure housing - factors shaped by companies and their investors.

ShareAction's Long-term Investors in People's Health (LIPH) initiative seeks to support the investment sector to consider health and and its wider determinants in their decision-making processes.

We run collaborative initiatives to help investors move to action - holding companies to account for their impacts and engaging in public policy advocacy.

Position:

Given the ambition and importance of the programme, we are seeking to appoint a Co-Head of Health, to work alongside a Co-Head peer, to lead ShareAction's Long-term Investors on People's Health (LIPH) initiative.

Each Co-Head has distinct areas of responsibility, but they are expected to work seamlessly together as a team and provide support and cover for each other as appropriate.

The role under recruitment will have responsibility for workstreams on investor standards and expectations, public policy as well as programme management and team leadership.

What you'll do:

  • You will coown (with your fellow Co-Head) and further develop, as required, overall strategy for ShareAction's work on commercial determinants of health.
  • You'll have overall accountability for quality and delivery of the investor standards and public policy workstreams within the Longterm Investors in People's Health (LIPH) programme, supporting the Standards Lead and Senior Policy Officer to design and deliver ambitious but achievable plans.
  • You will plan, manage and report on budget for the LIPH programme, delegating workstream and campaign budgets where there are appropriate leads.
  • In partnership with our Fundraising Team, you will support fundraising for future programme work and manage relationships with existing funders, engaging them appropriately in programme governance and overseeing reporting to them.
  • In partnership with our Communications Team, you will support external communications activity to achieve LIPH programme objectives and act as a spokesperson in external forums and in the media.
  • You will oversee programmewide monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) for the LIPH programme, delegating workstream and campaign MEL where there are appropriate leads.
  • You will oversee programmewide risk management, delegating management of individual risks where appropriate.
  • You will lead collaboration with teams across ShareAction to create links with other campaigns and embed commercial determinants of health across all our work.
  • You will work with peers at "Head of" level to play a leadership role across ShareAction.
  • You'll work closely with your fellow Co-Head to ensure seamless, joinedup work across the team, supporting and covering for each other, as required.
  • You will take lead responsibility for LIPH team performance and health.
  • You will recruit, line manage and develop the Standards Lead, Senior Policy Officer and Senior Project Officer.

Requirements:

  • A strong professional knowledge and understanding of commercial determinants of health.
  • An understanding of initiatives being led by business, academics, civil society and governments to address commercial determinants of health and a personal network with some of these groups.
  • An understanding of the opportunity to harness the power of the investment system to address commercial determinants of health and support population health.
  • Comfort with working autonomously, setting priorities, managing workload and driving delivery against objectives for yourself and your team.
  • Confidence with budget management and risk management at a project and programme level.
  • You'll be able to demonstrate strong communications and stakeholder management skills, be comfortable communicating and influencing at a senior level, and able to flex communication style accordingly.
  • You'll enjoy spotting connections between the work of your team and others—and be able to demonstrate you are an effective team player.
  • Proven ability to support and develop individuals with diverse styles and strengths, to get the best out of the team.
  • You'll be a team player with strong commitment to
