PURPOSE OF JOB:


In this role you will be using an integrative therapeutic approach to provide support to foster families, contribute to placement stability, have a positive impact on children's emotional and psychological health and their overall development, and achieve positive, sustainable changes in their behaviours, and emotional and social wellbeing.


You will be working within a multi-disciplinary team, and participate in meetings with staff, children looked after reviews, Strategy Meetings and Disruption Meetings, and contribute to comprehensive support packages that will meet foster family and children / young people's holistic needs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Provide ad hoc, and / or regularly scheduled therapeutic support and onetoone sessions to children in care, foster carers, and / or birth children
  • Develop therapeutic relationships with children and young people, and use a range of tools and strategies to engage them in sessions which will help them to make sense of difficult life experiences and trauma
  • Support children and young people to develop positive coping strategies, confidence, and selfesteem, improve their outcomes and their ability to form positive peer relationships and attachments
  • Undertake specialist assessments of children and / or young person and offer direct interventions to support children with complex behaviours and / or needs
  • Attend and contribute to meetings regarding children and young people, such as child in care reviews, stability meetings, disruptions meetings, and other professional meetings, to update FFF, local authorities, birth parents, and other stakeholders regarding a child's progress and needs
  • Provide support to foster placements in crisis, to increase placement stability, and reduce placement breakdowns
  • Support foster carers to understand the needs, behaviours, and the trauma experienced by the children and young people in their care
  • Support foster carers to build positive attachments and relationships with children and young people with attachment difficulties, additional learning needs, disabilities, and mental health needs
  • Support foster carers to develop their ability to parent therapeutically, and provide children and young people with care which enables them to experience a secure base within the foster placement
  • Support foster carers to develop strategies which contain and support children in their care, whilst having due regard to actual / potential triggers, and their life experiences and trauma
  • Support staff and foster carers to provide children with a sense of safety and containment, and opportunities to experience healthy, nurturing relationships, build selfesteem, and heal from past trauma.
  • Take a lead in embedding Attachment Theory, Trauma Informed Practice, and the Secure Base Model within the Fostering Team's practice.
  • Provide group and individual therapeutic support to the staff team and foster carers
  • Provide training to the staff team and foster carers
  • Provide the management team with regular updates regarding the support provided to foster families and staff
  • Produce informative and evidence based reports within specified timescales, which will contribute to care planning

Salary:
£35,000.00 per year
