Birmingham City University (BCU) is a large, diverse and vibrant place to study and work right in the heart of the city centre.

We have an exciting opportunity for a user-focused, driven and innovative individual to be the
Librarian - e-Resource Management for the Library and Learning Resources (L&LR).

Working collaboratively with the entire L&LR team and other stakeholders of the BCU community, the post-holder will assume the roles and responsibilities under the job description, with specific focus on e-resource management and delivery:

  • Manage the full life cycle of e-resources including trials, subscriptions, budgeting, activating/deactivating and troubleshooting.
  • Establish relationships with vendors, publishers, and consortia in order to proactively address ordering, access, payment and performance issues.
  • Coordinates projects and the activities needed to support user access and discovery to eresources, including advanced trouble shooting for library users and staff.
  • Maintain authentication protocols, including the proxy configuration files, for eresources.
  • Negotiate licence agreements and contract renewals with both internal and external stakeholders and maintain an overview of all eresource licences.
  • Develop data, performance measures, and reporting mechanism to ensure accurate reports are provided for eresource management and inform budget planning and procurement decisions.
  • Supervise and contribute towards the development of the functional areas of serial management, cataloguing and metadata management and interlibrary loan and document delivery service.
  • Take a lead in training and development of workflow, policies, procedures and documentation for eresource management processes and systems.
  • Identify, evaluate and stay current with emerging trends, resources, practices and standards in eresource management, data management, access and discovery to enhance library services.
You should be educated to degree level and able to demonstrate a portfolio of experience and skills, including:

  • Customer-focused and strong service orientation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of digital tools, standards and initiatives, e.g. SUSHI, OpenURL, KBART and COUNTER etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the issues related to the licensing, negotiation and provision of digital content and other related services.
  • Experience of negotiating pricing and access terms with publishers and third parties for digital content while ensuring a good outcome for the University in terms of access and risk management.
  • Experience of using financial, business, usage and other relevant data to evaluate suppliers' proposals.
  • Commitment to inspiring and innovative delivery and continuous service improvement.
  • Proven ability to deliver projects that tackle complex issues, positive and negative risks.
  • Strong influencing skills and confident to engage others to build collaborative working relationships and cocreate solutions to challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interpret complex information and convey simple explanations to nonexperts.
  • Ability to drive and support service change and inspire and motivate staff.
  • Enthusiastic, selfmotivated and cooperative with the ability to be flexible and demonstrate a high level of personal responsibility.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise, plan and manage own workloads in a busy and continuous changing environment.
