Westray Recruitment Group is seeking an experienced
Principal Civil Engineer to work in the Darlington area.


We have a new and exciting opportunity for a Principal Civil Engineer to join a major engineering client, based in the Darlington region.


You will utilise your civil engineering knowledge to oversee the design and supervision of the constuction of large storage tanks.


You will lead a Civil engineering and draughting team in producing designs, drawings and other deliverables and man-hour control, ensuring quality and administration procedures are followed.

The aim is to ensure the smooth delivery of the conceptual design, FEED and the eventual works on site.

You will be reporting to the Delivery Director


WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING IN YOUR ROLE?
The Role you'd play as a Principal Civil Engineer:

  • Responsible for design, production and checking of all design documentation
  • Produce economical design solutions for Projects, Studies and Enquiries
  • Ensure that all aspects of the design and engineering works are carried out in a diligent and professional manner, compliant with current legislation and industry best practice
  • Contribute to the efficiency of the Project Team ensuring correct communication is maintained between different Project Team members
  • Check vendor supplied documentation and monitor schedule progress
  • Production and checking of calculations, reports, data sheets and specifications
  • Production of material and man hour estimates as required
  • Liaise with other discipline engineers to ensure all interfaces are adequately covered
  • Material selection, specification and technical bid evaluation
  • Attendance at technical studies
  • Coordination of specialist testing and inspection at subcontractors and vendors
  • Provide technical support to ongoing projects and site personnel as required and take responsibility for technical quality of work carried out
  • Responsible for performance of personnel within the team
  • Responsible for managing design subcontracts and manhour and other budgetary control
  • Work with Civil Engineering Analytical Team to undertake the design of large reinforced and post tensioned concrete structures and piled foundations
  • Function as Lead Engineer on projects as required
  • Provide technical input to FEED, feasibility and other studies as required
  • Ensure the timely completion of deliverables and manhour control including reporting of progress
  • Continue development activities to ensure that existing skills are built upon, new skills are learnt and advantage is taken of the latest industry practices
  • Abide by Company policies and procedures

WHAT EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS ARE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION?

Qualifications desirable are:
Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering

Chartered Civil Engineer status, or working towards this

MSc/Meng in Civil or Structural Engineering (preferable but not essential)

Experience required;

  • Experience of leading civil designers within a multi discipline engineering division
  • Previous experience and working knowledge of codes, standards and accepted working practices of Civil Engineering in the international Oil Gas and Petrochemical industries
  • Experience of international design codes and seismic design required
Desirable, but not essential;

  • Appropriate experience as a Senior Engineer in the Oil Gas and Petrochemical industries, Cryogenic handling and storage experience
  • Previous design experience of LNG/Cryogenic Storage Tank Design and Seawater Inlets
  • Familiar with working in a 3D design software environment, such as SmartPlant 3D or PDMS

  • Good communicator at all levels with commercial and risk awareness
  • Leadership capability
  • Good interpersonal and team building skills
  • Ability to motivate contractors, partners, client and other personnel
  • Decision making ability based on sound supportable logic and knowledge
  • Ability to recognise potential innovations and cost benefits
  • Ability to work on own initiative with minimum supervision
  • 5+ years experience
  • Experience in a Principal Civil Engineer role
  • Based in the Darlington area (or close to)
