About us
Metropolitan Remand Centre (MRC) is a 954-bed maximum-security remand facility based in the western suburbs of Melbourne.

Prisoners on remand are alleged offenders who were not bailed when charged with a crime and are awaiting the outcome of their court case.

About the role

In the context of a prison, the Team Leader oversees and assists with the provision of effective corporate support services (as specified), within the unique operational environment of a correctional facility.

In either context, the role requires a strong focus on ensuring the Justice Officer workforce is properly skilled and trained to deliver quality services.

The role also requires a high degree of integrity, effective communication skills, an ability to resolve competing demands, problem-solving skills as well as an ability to monitor service delivery and compliance.


In this role, you will:

- deliver justice services and maintain accurate, confidential records and provide statistical reports in line with agreed standards and local operating procedures
- supervise the Property team in the delivery of all administrative functions pertaining to Property at MRC, including the maintenance of accurate data of prisoner property and the preparation of all documentation relating to a prisoner's property transfer, classification and release or court appearances
- plan and prioritise the workload of the Property team, ensuring effective and efficient operations.

About you
- well-developed computer literacy and understanding of the importance of maintaining accurate records
- good knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulations
- excellent team management, problem solving and stakeholder management skills.

MANDATORY VACCINATIONS:


The department is committed to providing and maintaining a working environment which is safe and without risk to the health of its employees consistent with the department's obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic).

Therefore, there is a requirement that all DJCS employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to undertake duties outside of their homes.

At interview stage and prior to commencement of employment with the department, you will need to provide evidence that you are vaccinated against COVID-19 with three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Upon commencement of employment with the department you will be required to provide evidence that you have an up-to-date vaccination status within the timelines specified by the department into the DJCS Service Portal.

This includes evidence of three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine required by the department (from time to time).


Acceptable evidence includes:


  • COVID19 digital certificate (available via your myGov account)
  • Your immunisation history statement (available via your myGov account)
Other documentation outside the above will not be accepted as evidence of having received your COVID-19 vaccine doses.
