- Participate in a rotation through all sections of the pharmacy department when needed.
- Undertake dispensing of prescriptions in an accurate and timely manner and use professional knowledge to ensure that such duties are performed in accordance with Good Dispensing Practice. (
- Process and check ward requisitions for controlled drugs.
- Maintain competency as an accuracy checking technician by performing dispensary duties.
- Support the delivery, development and implementation of all aspects of the clinical pharmacy service.
- Maintain competency as a medicines optimisation technician by performing clinical pharmacy duties.
- Provide supervision, support, mentorship and training to Pharmacy Assistants in both the dispensary and clinical team.
- Act as a role model.
- S/NVQ level 3 in pharmacy services plus accredited underpinning knowledge or equivalent qualification approved by the General Pharmacy Council
- Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council GPhC
- Completed Pharmacy Workforce Development South (PWDS) Dispensing Accuracy Scheme (or equivalent from elsewhere)
- Completed Pharmacy Workforce Development South (PWDS) Accredited Checking Technician (or equivalent from elsewhere) or willing to work towards this once in post.
- Working towards Pharmacy Leadership Programme or equivalent, or able to demonstrate ongoing competence in leadership skills
- Pharmacy Workforce Development South (PWDS) Medicines Management / Medicines Optimisation accreditation or willing to work towards this once in post.
- Working as an experienced Pharmacy technician registered with the GPhC
- Ability to dispense accurately
- Able to demonstrate ongoing competence in both Medicines Management / Medicines Optimisation and the accuracy checking of prescriptions (when accredited)
- Ability to accurately input data and generate labels using the pharmacy computer system

This role is suitable for registered Pharmacy technicians, with hospital experience, or Pharmacy technicians with Medicines Optimisation or Leadership qualifications.
As a senior Pharmacy Technician, primarily you will be working within the Pharmacy Patient Services team where you will support the Dispensary flow and be instrumental in delivering our services at ward level providing patient centred care at the bedside. You may be required to support other areas of the pharmacy department. For example, Clinical Trials, Quality Assurance and Supply Services.
The role is varied and offers insights into many different clinical specialities including Neurosciences, Renal, Major Trauma, Plastic Surgery, Cardiology, Respiratory, Orthopaedics and Care of the Elderly to name a few.
We are committed to supporting professional development and offer a variety of different opportunities to support career progression. For example, in-house management skills modules, clinical teaching sessions and clinical prioritisation. We have over 30 specialist or lead technician roles at band 6+, many of whom progressed into these roles from a Senior Pharmacy Technician role.

This post provides operational support to Pharmacy Patient Services Team (dispensary and clinical) by optimising the use of medication to promote health, wellness and disease prevention of our patients.
