Salary:
£31,931 to £34,709 per annum (dependent on skills and experience).

Allowances:
A Specialist Allowance is also available for this role.

The role will also involve working closely with the Data Centre Operations management team; Heads of Hartree and the Scientific ComputingDepartment on the strategic development of HPC Data Centres in accordance with STFC goals and priorities.


The Role:


  • The key focus of the role will include installing new facility equipment and associated racking solutions such as network switches, servers other monitoring devices
  • To be knowledgeable in Electrical, HVAC mechanical cooling/heating systems
  • To monitor the operations and make approved adjustments to the Data Centre systems including but not limited to CRAC units, HVAC, UPS units and other mechanical equipment
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any facility issues to the root cause, overseeing third party electrical and mechanical contractors and operations whilst maintaining maintenance preventation schedule plans
  • To assist with the Operations documentation, Disaster Recovery procedures across all Data Centre facilities
  • To work with the HPC Data Centre Operations team to develop the software strategy for the Data Centres and Facilities

Requirements:


  • Experience working within Data Centre environment with a proven ability to operate in a pressurised situation and successfully handle multiple priorities or Large operational plant facilities / Control Room operations
  • Experience in HVAC and Electrical Distribution systems knowledge
  • To have a good understanding of Data Centre infrastructure (UPS Systems, Generators, etc)
  • Awareness of environmental and Health & Safety regulations or critical infrastructure for large operational facilities.
  • Previous experience in Building Management systems with the ability to read/understand electrical and mechanical schematics
  • Must be able to develop, implement and improve procedures and policies
  • An aptitude and desire to identify and automate repeated tasks for efficiency and accuracy

Data Contacts and Communications
Expected to liaise with stakeholders at all levels both inside and outside the organisation.


In particular, working closely with:

  • Hartree Department in delivering the UK's foremost High-Performance Computing (HPC) and Data analytics technology centre
  • Data Centre Operations team on the day to day operations and capacity planning for floor space; power and cooling capacity
  • CSD Estates and Building Projects Departments
