The Ralph Lauren Centre for Breast Cancer Research, based in the Royal Marsden Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and led by Professor Nicholas Turner, is a world-renowned laboratory that conducts translational research into breast cancer.

The Centre's aim is to make practice-changing advances in the medical management of breast cancer to improve patient outcomes and care.

Major research themes include the personalisation of breast cancer therapy, identification of intra-tumoural heterogeneity and work to define its role in the emergence of drug-resistance.

The Centre also focuses on the characterisation of molecular changes resulting from hormone therapies, and predictors of risk of recurrence.


The post-holder will be based in The Ralph Lauren Centre for Breast Cancer Research and will maintain Good Laboratory Practice and have a good understanding of the Human Tissue Act.

and implementing in the clinic assays of circulating tumour DNA and other non-invasive assays of breast cancer.

The Centre also focuses on the characterisation of molecular changes resulting from hormone therapies, and predictors of risk of recurrence.

The Centre has strong ties with The Institute of Cancer Research and benefits from both the scientific excellence of this Institution and the ground breaking clinical innovations at The Royal Marsden.


We require an enthusiastic and motivated Clinical Support Worker to perform a wide variety of support tasks within The Ralph Lauren Centre under the supervision and direction of the senior scientific staff.

The role principally involves the reception of clinical and research samples and sample processing prior to analysis by our Research scientists' team and requires an exceptional degree of accuracy.


The post-holder will be based in The Ralph Lauren Centre for Breast Cancer Research and will maintain good laboratory practice and have a good understanding of the Human Tissue Act.

Adhere to scientific, technical, and administrative standards, policies and procedures in accordance with Hospital, Department and regulatory requirements.

Have a good knowledge and working compliance with relevant laboratory Standard Operating Procedures.

Ensure that the principles described in the Human Tissue Act and Good Clinical Practice are applied at all times.

Manage time and resources effectively in carrying out the duties of this post.

Adapt and manage day-to-day workload and prioritise accordingly.

Responsible for communicating any policy non-compliance observed to a senior member of staff.

Tissue and cell samples will be safely received, recorded and processed.


To rotate through all sections of the Sample Reception area as required and assist in ensuring the efficient and smooth running of the section.


To be proficient in completing all routine Clinical Support worker (CSW) tasks within the department and set a high standard.
