    Job summary

    Applications are warmly invited fora highly trained individual for one substantive replacement post to join the Pain Management Department at Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust.

    This is a substantive consultant post in Pain Medicine. We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic colleague, who is committed to maintain the highest standards in patient care, and who shares the team vision to develop the Pain services at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.

  • To maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of patients under your care
  • To join colleagues in the smooth running of Acute and Chronic Pain services in our Trust
  • To participate in teaching, audit, management and clinical governance
  • Ensure active participation in continuing professional development (CPD)

    Job responsibilities

    The 10 PAs plan comprises of PAs of direct clinical care (DCC) and PA of supporting professional activity (SPA). This post is expected to involve cross site daytime sessions. The overall commitment in the job plan will be annualised with regard to sessions worked.

    The job plan outlined in Appendix 1 of the Job Description is intended to demonstrate what a typical week will look at UHL, an example plan is given. The weekly layout of the job plan may ultimately change slightly, but the substance of the sessions the DCC/SPA split will not. The DCC PA activity undertaken covering this contributes to the DCC PA component of the annualised job plan.

    The department may be able to accommodate some requests with regards to working patterns, including less than full time job plans or anaesthetic DCC activity.

    Person Specification

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Medical degree, MBBS or equivalent
  • Full and Specialist registration for Anaesthesia; (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
  • Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists or equivalent
  • Completion of Advanced Pain Training or equivalent
  • Applicants that are UK trained, must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
  • Applicants that are non-UK trained, they will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT and be on the GMC Specialist Register/Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) application in a nonCCT specialty awaiting approval

  • Post Graduate Degree related to chronic pain MD, PhD, MSc
  • Clinical skills and Experience

    Essential

  • Wide experience in Pain management
  • Ability to undertake the clinical work expected of a chronic pain consultant in NHS practice in England.
  • Desirable

  • Evidence of extended period of additional subspecialty training in in Chronic Pain Management in a tertiary centre
  • Experience in supervising chronic pain trainees and others in clinical practice
  • Broad experience of working within the NHS
  • Teaching Experience

    Essential

  • Experience of teaching and training of undergraduates, medical and allied health professionals
  • Ability to teach clinical skills to anaesthetic trainees of all levels, and achieving GMC standards to be recognised as a clinical supervisor
  • Desirable

  • Evidence of formal experience in medical education including regional/national teaching Higher teaching qualification
  • Evidence of achieving GMC standards to be recognised as an educational supervisor
  • An understanding of current issues in medical education and training

  • Understand the principles of Clinical Audit
  • Evidence of participation in audit projects with specific relevance to subspecialty interest
