About the Role

Sense is recruiting for a Head of People Partnering and Employee Relations to join our forward-thinking People Team, based in either Birmingham or London.

This is a fantastic new opportunity for an ambitious HR professional with experience of leading people partnering and advice services, and employment law, to be a part of ensuring the continued success and efficiency of our People Team.

Our People Team exist to support all our employees at every stage of their journey with us. We provide strategic lead on people management, learning and development, internal communications and engagement at Sense. We aim to enable the organisation to have the right culture, capacity and capability to achieve its purpose. As Head of People Partnering and Employee Relations, you will be an integral part of this.


The main duties and responsibilities include:

Lead a team of People Partners, Employee Relations Advisors and Reward Advisor to design, plan and deliver an organisation-aligned people agenda and employee offer.

Creation and ownership of talent management and succession planning.

Be an active member of the People Leadership team helping shape our People Plan, ensuring we have strong relationships with customer groups and anticipating issues that impact our people.

Make an active contribution to the Sense Leadership group and represent the department at internal and external meetings.
Building strong collaborative relationships across the wider People team.

Lead a team of People Partners and Employee Relations Advisors and Reward Manager to design, plan and deliver an organisation-aligned people agenda and employee offer.

Work closely with the wider organisation to ensure the delivery of projects and initiatives to improve organisational effectiveness.

Ensure that the advice, guidance and expertise we provide, is timely, accurate, customer focused and balances our appetite for risk.

Manage the financial resources of the team, setting and monitoring budgets in line with the Sense financial planning cycle.
Lead the team in the development and review of employment policies.
Responsible for maintaining and reviewing an effective reward strategy, implemented consistently across the organisation.
Working with forums and networks across the organisation to ensure positive engagement with our people.

Maintain a good understanding of the regulatory requirements for employee data across our core business areas and the differing nations of the UK.

Provide coaching, management and leadership so the team can contribute to the organisation's goals.


To succeed in this role, you will have:
Up to date knowledge of employment law, recent case law and best practise.
Proven experience of leading a people partnering and advice service across a complex geographically dispersed organisation.
A demonstrable commitment to enabling an inclusive workforce to reflect our community.

Experience of initiating and leading change to support the ever-changing needs of an organisation, in order to deliver its strategic outcome.

Values-driven leadership approach and a role model for others.
Resilient and adept at managing priorities and creating clarity for others.

Excellent relationship building and communication, with the ability to move between listening to, guiding and coaching others at all levels.

The ability to make quick, sound decisions based on knowledge and judgment.
Able to comply with the principles of GDPR and maintain confidentiality at all times.

A commitment to people and Sense's vision and values; a willingness to learn how to communicate with people with complex communication and identify the barriers to their participation in all aspects of Sense's work.
