Research Officer

Salary from £40,229 to £48,456 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £52,095 pa inclusive of London allowance

This is a fixed term appointment for 6 months
CASE is seeking to appoint a full-time Research Officer to start as soon as possible for a six month period to contribute to research being undertaken as part of the Children's Information ) project.

This large research project is funded by Nuffield Foundation and is an innovative collaboration between local authorities and several universities to improve the way that children's data and voice information is used in local and national Government.

The Research Officer will contribute to the workstream on 'needs', which is being led by Dr Polly Vizard and Dr Tania Burchardt at CASE.

The Research Officer will be expected to undertake a depth review of frameworks that are used to identify and measure children's needs and outcomes.

The review will be informed by (1) a desk review of frameworks and measures being used within local authorities, regionally, nationally and internationally; (2) deep dive analysis of frameworks used by project local authority partners; (3) interviews with senior policy makers and practitioners within the local authority partners; (4) broader dialogue with the project learning network; (5) a workshop on frameworks for identifying and measuring children's needs and outcomes.

The key task of the Research Officer will be to write a high quality research report setting out the findings of the review.

The Research Officer will be also expected to organise and write up the workshop; attend the learning network event; conduct and write up senior leader/practitioner interviews (with other project team members); work with the LSE IT team and other team members to design a practitioner-orientated web-based navigational tool; and participate in and present findings at project meetings.

The ability to write clearly and concisely, to analyse and research complex ideas, to review and synthesise policy documents, data and measures, to work independently and to deliver to deadlines is essential.

Experience of working with UK local authorities, a background in research on children's outcomes and / or interest in or experience of working with children's data and voice would be particularly advantageous for this role.
