Job description:

Estimator - Hemel Hempstead

Murphy Ground Engineering operate a fleet of rotary bored/CFA piling rigs across the UK installing bearing piles, secant walls and contiguous piled walls for a variety of clients in a wide range of situations.

We are seeking a Piling Estimator with relevantexperience in pricing CFA and Rotary Bored piling works.

You would be part of a small team of experienced Estimators, this is an excellent opportunity to further your knowledge in the piling estimating field, with opportunity for progression if you can demonstratethe attitude, skills and abilities required.

Murphy Ground Engineering are committed to training and developing Estimators to a high standard and have a track record in doing so.


What you will be doing

  • Prepare accurate quantity takeoffs from project documentation.
  • Analyse and summarise Site Investigation reports to facilitate a pile design and estimate.
  • Prepare basic pile designs and complete pile scheduling for pricing.
  • Prepare and maintain robust, accurate, cost estimates for projects
  • Complete the estimating stage risk assessment
  • Ensure that the tender provides the "winning strategy" including margin/profit decisions.
  • Identify tender deliverables required from the project designers with the aid of the Senior Estimator.
  • Prepare tender documentation and submit the quotation to the client.
  • Maintain contact with the client through follow up, negotiation to project award.
  • Contribute to the management team maintaining close contact with other departments.
  • Contribute to the development of novel value engineered solutions with innovative and alternate ideas.
  • Produce enquiry schedules for scope of works and packages required from the tender documentation, drawings and specifications under the guidance of the Senior Estimator.
  • Prepare subcontract packages as necessary with the aid of the Senior Estimator.
  • Evaluate quotations returned from suppliers and where necessary enter into correspondence to bring quotations in line with the project specific requirements

Who we are looking for

  • An ability to build up estimates for such piling disciplines from first principles
  • Experience pricing in a wide range of ground conditions
  • A track record of securing orders with the ability to close a deal
  • Being comfortable meeting with clients to visit sites and negotiate
  • Skills in explaining different aspects of piling projects to clients
  • Good written presentation skills
  • Drive and a willingness to progress in a fast paced working environment
  • Readiness to travel to different group offices, client offices and sites around the UK.
