About the role:


Job purpose:


To work under the direct instruction/guidance of teaching/senior staff to undertake work, care and intervention programmes, in order to enhance pupils' access to learning, and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom.


Duties and Responsibilities:
To have due regard for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

To follow all associated child protection and safeguarding policies as adopted by the School and Local Authority, and to be proactive in matters relating to health and safety.

Support of pupils

  • Supervise and provide particular support for pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Support Plans, EHCPs, Behaviour Plans, Healthcare Plans and Personal Care programs.
  • Establish constructive relationships with pupils and interact with them according to individual needs.
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
  • Encourage pupils to act independently, interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher.
  • Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote selfesteem and independence.
  • Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under guidance of the teacher.
  • Provide support for individual students/groups of students inside or outside the classroom including those with additional or Special Educational Needs as well as basic IT support where directed.
Support for teacher

  • Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans and assist with the display of pupils' work.
  • Use strategies, in liaison with the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals.
  • Assist with the planning of learning activities.
  • Monitor pupils' responses to learning activities and accurately record achievement/progress as directed.
  • Provide detailed and regular feedback to teacher on pupils' achievement, progress, problems etc.
