Job description:
Join us as Head of Indirect Tax
- We'll look to you to set the strategy and build the culture through which the Indirect Tax team comes together to enable businesses to fully comply with current legislation, and make sure the bank bears the correct amount of indirect tax cost
- You'll deliver a first class professional tax advisory and compliance service to deal with all activities and transactions carried out across the bank, as well as providing technical support and oversight to cover issues generated from activities across Europe, India, the Far East and the US

What you'll do:
As Head of Indirect Tax, you'll be leading the relationship with HMRC on all indirect tax issues, resolving matters in an efficient and commercial manner and positively influencing HMRC's overall management of NatWest Group.
You'll be leading the transformation of the VAT team in line with Finance and organisational change agenda, maximising opportunities presented by our Finance data transformation programme to improve VAT compliance.
In addition, you'll be:
- Ensuring indirect tax is managed in accordance with the principles in our Tax strategy, and proactively seeking out opportunities to make tax savings that are within current tax risk appetite
- Providing leadership for the Indirect Tax team in the management of indirect taxation which impacts the bank, as well as supporting the VAT compliance team
- Building effective relationships with key business stakeholders, colleagues within Finance and other teams within the Tax function
- Coaching and developing members of the Indirect Tax Team and enhancing team engagement
- Supporting key projects requiring indirect tax advisory and compliance advice
The skills you'll need:
To succeed in this role, you'll need to be ICAS, ICAEW or CTA qualified, with significant experience of providing indirect tax advice on complex transactions and a proven up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of the UK and overseas VAT systems.
Alongside experience in leading a team of fellow professionals in the provision of a tax advisory service, you'll need a track record in developing a strong and supportive internal and external stakeholder network to drive opportunities that can deliver robust customer outcomes, sustainable financial returns, collaboration, and more.
You'll also bring:
- Communication skills, and the ability to make complex tax matters understood at all levels
- The ability to manage and delegate workloads without compromising service commitment and personal and team development
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to influence people to make sure that support and commitment for tax issues is achieved at the correct level
- The ability to lead directly and through others to drive the best commercial outcomes
- Critical thinking skills, enabling you to cut through complexity, and make sound decisions and recommendations that are carefully balanced against risk
