    Reporting to the Director of Safeguarding and Vulnerabilities the post holder will provide strategic and operational leadership across the Trust to assist UHB NHS Trust to fulfil their contracted responsibilities as stated in the statutory guidance.

    They will lead the operationalisation and delivery of statutory guidance for children and young people in care.

    The post holder will focus on partnership working staff training and education which will impact on patient quality and experience outcomes, user and carer involvement and will be set in the context of the predicated growth and demand for children in care services.


    • An operational role to take a lead on the statutory health assessment process, developing effective partnerships with the local authority and other lead agencies.
    • To ensure children and young people in local authority care are provided with services that meet their diverse and specialized needs.
    • Named Nurse and Team Leader responsibilities for Children in Care Service at UHB.
    • Management responsibility for the nursing team and administrators for the CYPLA Team.
    • Providing effective leadership in setting, monitoring, and evaluating agreed standards of practice, new developments and delivery compliant with contractual requirements, local and national legislation.
    • Named lead professional for complex needs children/young people and submit detailed

    Complete new into care health assessments on behalf of the designated doctor (when the child/ young person refuses to see a doctor) and ensure health needs are identified and appropriate health planning made.


    • Maintain effective working relationships with adoption and fostering services.
    • Ability to analyse highly complex information in order to develop, plan and deliver services which meet the requirements of service users, partner agencies and health service providers.
    • Responsible to UHB and BSOL on issues of planning, strategy and the audit of quality standards in relation to the health services for CYPLA and provide expert advice on health needs of CYPLA
    • Participate with relevant multiagency local projects
    • Attend strategic meetings to discuss CYPLA, for example, Leaving care and transition, corporate parenting, UHB safeguarding operational group etc.
    • Lead in the development and implementation of nurseled care and interventions
    • Act as a resource for professionals/ carers to support their role promoting the health and well being
    • Communicate with external local authorities and health

    Educated to masters level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area.

    • Educated to Degree level in relevant subject, specialised course or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area.
    • Effective First Level Registration (RSCN or RN, RNLD RGN or Part 3 as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse).
    • Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development.
    Extensive knowledge of specialism, acquired through Masters level training or equivalent experience or training plus further specialist knowledge or experience
