    Job summary

    We are seeking 2 enthusiastic and highly motivated HighlySpecialist Healthcare Science Practitioners / Highly Specialist CardiacPhysiologists / Clinical Scientists to work as part of our friendly teamproviding

    adiagnostic Cardiology and Respiratory service to both in-patients andout-patients. The principal hospitals within County Durham and Darlington NHSFoundation Trust are Darlington Memorial Hospital, The University Hospital ofNorth Durham, Bishop Auckland Hospital and Shotley Bridge Hospital. The Cardiac & Respiratory InvestigationsUnits comprise a team of approximately 40 staff who provide a broad range ofinvasive and non-invasive procedures including echocardiography, stressechocardiography, trans-oesophageal echocardiography, diagnostic angiography,pacing implant / follow-up, complex device follow up, tilt tests and NerveConduction tests. We are activelydeveloping services and encourage personal development / extension ofroles.     Main duties of the job

    Thesuccessful candidates will work as part of a team in the busyCardio-Respiratory departments. Theywill be a specialist in Echocardiography and will have a responsibility for thedelivery of the highest quality echocardiography services within theirdesignated team. They will work closelywith colleagues to ensure that protocols and procedures meet local and nationalrequirements for good practice and service delivery. They will provide a range of cardiology /respiratory investigations, and producing evidence-based clinical reports. They will provide training to otherhealthcare professionals and students and will supervise junior staff, as wellas deputise for more senior staff on occasions.

We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

    Job responsibilities

    The candidates will independently perform a range of Cardiacinvestigations, specialising in echocardiography, and will derive clinicalreports from highly specialist diagnostic procedures. They must have experience of working in aCardiac Investigations department at Band 6 level and have achieved the minimumacademic qualifications in the Person Specification. They must be registered on the RCCP / AHCS /HCPC register or be working towards Practitioner Training Programme equivalenceor Scientist Training Programme Equivalence, followed by acceptance onto AHCS /RCCP / HCCP professional register.

    They must have British Society ofEchocardiography Adult Accreditation or equivalent, with at least 6 months ofoperational experience in trans-thoracic echocardiography, postaccreditation. They must also hold acurrent certificate in Immediate Life Support.

    Essential

  • BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science: Cardiac Physiology or MSc Clinical Science (Cardiac Science) or equivalent, with acceptance onto AHCS / RCCP / HCCP professional register.
  • Or BSc in a relevant scientific subject and working towards Practitioner Training Programme equivalence or Scientist Training Programme Equivalence, followed by acceptance onto AHCS / RCCP / HCCP professional register.
  • British Society of Echocardiography Adult Accreditation or equivalent, with at least 6 months of operational experience in trans-thoracic echocardiography, post accreditation.
  • Immediate Life Support
