Looking for data evangelists

Virgin Money is all about disrupting the status quo, taking on the challenges of the future, and saying goodbye to boring banking.

We're on the lookout for like-minded individuals and innovators like you to help push us forward.

We're also transforming howwe work to give our colleagues more choice, control and flexibility to live and work how they choose with
A Life More Virgin.

Here's what it means for YOU:

  • 38.5 days annual leave for all colleagues (including bank holidays and pro rata if part-time)?
  • Up to five extra paid wellbeing days per year?
  • A 35hour working week
  • 20 weeks paid, gender neutral family leave (52 weeks in total) for expectant parents and those looking to adopt
  • Market leading Pension & Private Medical Insurance
  • Flexible benefits including Cycle to Work, Wellness & Health Assessments and Critical Illness
  • Ability to work anywhere in the UK? (where the role allows)

And you get these Red-Hot Rewards from day one

Day to day, you'll be doing one or more of the following

  • Preparing and creating trusted data using SAS, SQL or similar tools
  • Rapid prototyping of tools that make the most of the data we can gather
  • Deliver data quality improvements within and outside Finance
  • Make our data controls stronger and change those of the Group for the better
  • Provide continuous support for the existing services that we provide
  • Building a data control framework within Financial Control
  • Role modelling great data practice for our Finance colleagues
  • Carry out regular data tasks
  • Represent the Financial Control function in data strategy sessions
  • Training nonspecialists to love data the way that you do

The team you'll be joining has had lots of skilled people in lots of different disciplines - ranging from former summer school drama teacher, tennis umpire, mum, SQL experts, central banking economist, singers, central bankers, football coach, statisticalmodelling experts, dad, econometricians, service personnel, rocket scientists, cooks, farmers, golfers, taxi drivers.

We speak at least four languages, have been on television lots and live all over the country. Some of us work 9-5 and others don't work Wednesdays.
We love working a Life More Virgin (and not always at home or in the office).

The team will be relied on for technical excellence and reliable outputs so quality assurance and attention to detail are key to how we work so well together.

Our outputs are seen by our exec, our board, our shareholders, our customers and the whole world.

We already own a robust process that runs without fail every month and we fit perfectly into the wider reporting cycles of the Group when we need to.

What we need from you for these roles are

  • Experience of determining priorities
  • You will be expected to participate in the planning process as well as to deliver work.
  • An understanding of the value of data quality and practical experience of improving it
  • We want to drive the move for the Group to better data quality management from the inside
  • A love of innovation
  • Our work will largely be new and our solutions driven by value, rather than process. This will mean that often we will need some imagination.

What we would like you to have

  • Experience of the Group's data infrastructures.
  • All knowledge welcome but more is better
  • Understanding of existing Finance processes
  • We're looking to add to what we do and need people who recognise the opportunities
  • An idea of where you'd like to go next
  • Our team is a great place to stay. But it can also be the steppingstone to all sorts of other opportunities. We will be an intersection between Finance and Data, Risk and Commercial.

We would really like to hear from people for whom this sounds like nearly the right role, but not quite.

If it's not the role for you, we'll tell you, but we'll also try to explain why not and what you might need to do if this is to be your next role ornext role but one.

We'll describe the journeys that we've been on to get here and why we love this role most of the time.

We do have roles at different levels, including roles where potential is more important than experience, and we do have more junior roles at the moment.

Even though we're using SAS and SQL, we like using new technologies and want to be the front of the queuefor the new Azure toolkit if we can.

To be honest, we also quite like Excel.
