Description

We are seeking to appoint a Student Support Assistant to work in the Student Affairs and Support Team within the Academic Unit of Medical Education.

You should have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.

The ability to work independently and collaboratively is essential, as is the ability to plan and manage workload, in consultation with the line manager and colleagues, to accommodate unscheduled tasks as required.


You will work closely with the academic and professional services members of the Student Affairs and Support Team who deliver and develop the support framework for the undergraduate medical students.

This includes the provision of pastoral, disability liaison and wellbeing support to students and managed interventions for students in difficulty.

It also includes progression monitoring of students to ensure that the professionalism requirements of the GMC for doctors in training are maintained.

The team additionally produce policy and strategic initiatives to ensure that support meets best practice and national initiatives in providing an excellent student experience.


The Student Affairs and Support Team within the Academic Unit of Medical Education supports the academic, career, professional, and personal development and success of student doctors in the University of Sheffield Medical School.

They do this by providing a supportive and inclusive environment that enhances students' intellectual experience, facilitates career planning, fosters a feeling of wellbeing, stimulates professional development, provides leadership opportunities, and celebrates the success of all students.

The team has 4 professional services staff members and 10 academic members.


The Academic Unit of Medical Education today is home to more than 1500 undergraduate students and over 100 postgraduate taught students.

Our aim is to provide high quality, innovative teaching and research to ensure tomorrow's doctors are best equipped to tackle disease.

The Medical School has had a recent expansion of undergraduate medical student places based on widening participation and access criteria and additionally has a Graduate Entry Medicine degree programme.
