Job summary:

Job description:


You will gain a rich experience in activities related to all three pillars of The Policy Standards from evidence gathering through to delivery and involve working collaboratively with different layers of government and the charitable sector.

Using the Project Management framework, the Higher Executive Officer (HEO) Policy Advisor role is vital to the Directorate's outputs.


1. Deliver policies, projects and reports on a range of topics (80%)

Policy
Ensure that D&I policies, guides, and toolkits are relevant.

Using MOD colleagues lived experiences to advise MOD policy development.

Identify gaps in policy and consider whether they will adversely impact on MOD employees.

Ensure ownership of policy, i.e., content is relevant and updated.

Where relevant, conduct an Equality Analysis every time a policy is written, reviewed, or amended.

Ensure any amends to policy that may impact policy owned by other departments are appropriately communicated.


Projects
Ensure Projects undertaken cohere with D&I Strategic Objectives.

Scope project to identify potential outcomes, time and resources required to deliver.


Ensure Project appropriately reflected on task tracker to enable Programme Management Team to prioritise the project within the ask of the wider team and authorise.

Work with Programme Management Team to deliver project, ensuring all relevant partners and stakeholders are updated.

Evaluate the success of the project upon completion.

Provide a cohering function for cross-government projects within the Protected Characteristic domain set out by the 2010 Equality Act.

Undertake learning opportunities to gain in depth knowledge around the Protected Characteristics.

Horizon-scanning looking ahead to new processes, policies, ways of working.

Collaborate with other D&I leads on cross-Directorate projects.

Develop input / collaboration with Cross government work and communities of interest i.e., Race Leads meeting.

Provide SME to secretariat lead to support on Freedom of Information Requests, Submissions and other reports as required.

Collaborate with wider D&I functions to ensure consistency of approaches.

Liaise with other MOD/D&I teams to share best practice and improvements.


Work with Line Manager to identify areas for development and record progress at both mid and end of year reviews
.



3. Professional Development, Administration, Management (10%)


Undertake a recognised Professional Qualification endorsed by the Department, such as Project Fundamentals Qualification which is desirable and an agreement of completing this within the first 3 months of starting.

Maintain awareness of all relevant publications i.e. D&I strategy, Wigston Report and associated reviews, Lived Experience report, pan-Defence action plan, JSP101.


Enable MOD to meet its legal requirements by leading and managing publications, whilst ensuring that deadlines are met (for example, the Gender Pay Gap).
