This role is located in the Prosperity Group within the Northern Ireland Office which aims to drive growth and prosperity in Northern Ireland, focused on supporting the Northern Ireland economy, working with other Government departments, the NI Executive and wider stakeholders.
This reflects the Government's goals of strengthening the Union, levelling up, economic recovery following Covid 19, and the increasingly proactive stance the Department is taking on the economy.
Our Prosperity team is the interface between Whitehall departments and the Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) departments on both long term reform and short term pressures, including dealing with Northern Ireland's fiscal position, the economic implications of and opportunities arising from exiting the EU and how best to create a stronger society in Northern Ireland.
About the role
This is a unique and stretching role working across the Prosperity Group but also the wider NIO and Whitehall providing economic analysis and insights that shape the thinking and decisions of Ministers and senior officials.
It is ideally suited to an ambitious economist looking to build a wide range of influencing and stakeholder management skills as well as core strengths in economics and analysis.
You would join a small and dynamic network of economists and other analytical professionals who focus on: bettering the Government's understanding of Northern Ireland's economic landscape, advising Ministers and senior officials on matters of economic policy and value for money and promoting the use of data and analysis across the NIO.

Essential Criteria:
To be successful you must be able to demonstrate that you have:
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to keep a range of tasks on track at the same time
- Strong written and oral communication and ability to present information appropriately tailored for different audiences
- The ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and cross government colleagues and a broad range of stakeholders
- Strong data analysis skills, using MS Excel Google Sheets and producing tables, charts etc
