One of our fellow B-Corp clients is looking for a purpose driven Packaging manager to join them in driving their packaging design and functionality forwards in this exciting and innovative technical packaging management position.

This role is:

  • Responsible for the safety and quality of our packaging portfolio.
  • Delivery of our Packaging strategy.
  • Investigation and identification of new formats of innovative packaging to help drive growth in the European business and to manage packaging quality to ensure delivery of consistently highquality finished products

Purpose of role:
We have been known from inception as innovators in our packaging and we are now looking for a Technical Packaging Leader to deliver the next revolution by:

  • Owning (Development and maintenance) our packaging portfolio specification on our systems, ensuring that all quality standards and legal requirements relating to packaging are maintained and updated.
  • Ensuring that all quality standards and legal requirements relating to packaging are maintained and updated.
  • Driving improvements in product quality through developing a better understanding of our packaging processes and the impact on product performance eg: shelflife validation and sensory attribute.
  • Lead our Packaging Strategy technical projects delivery.
  • Identifying and delivering innovative alternatives to our current packaging materials.
  • Driving innovation as part of our new product development process, delivering new packaging materials or processing technologies, and transferring existing innovative materials into alternative packaging formats.

Role activities / responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the packaging used in all our products is safe and complies with all relevant legislation. This will entail working closely with all packaging suppliers for both our UK and European operations and with the Head of Quality and your Technical colleagues.
  • Deliver our overall packaging and finished product due diligence, by reviewing our current information and practices, implementing improvements, and systematic reviews.
  • Helping to ensure full compliance is ongoing. This will involve assisting with the setting up of required systems, quality manuals, and processes to maintain the central resource on current legislation, full packaging specifications, supplier certificates,and licenses.
  • Helping our Team to deliver complete control over our packaging and finished goods supply chains.
  • Create strong and collaborative relationships with suppliers and comanufacturer to deliver our project portfolio.
  • Ensure our packaging suppliers' and comanufacturers performance through setting and regular review of their KPI and audit program. As well as ownership of our packaging change control and nonconformance process
  • Lead packaging format development and drive ideation. Influence new product development to ensure we deliver on our packaging sustainability targets.
  • Working with Friends, Shopping, and Safely assisting in the development of new packaging materials and formats for our products. Work closely with the UK and international teams to deliver all packaging for our NPD.
  • Own the packaging brief process, packaging first production, and packaging performance within finished product specification.

You will need:

  • A food or packagingbased degree (or equivalent)
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisation skills
  • A passion and drive for food, health and quality ingredients and packaging as well as sustainability
  • A real passion for innovation and newness and willingness to throw yourself into a varied and busy role that will develop your career
  • Confidence to challenge things that don't feel right and the ability to offer solutions and recommendations to make things better
  • Be willing to travel to visit both domestic and overseas suppliers

Nice to have:

  • Great track records in achieving sustainable packaging development
  • Experience of packaging innovation projects and delivering complex solutions across a wide manufacturing base
  • Great technical understanding of packaging solutions and ideas within a circular economy
