We have an exciting opportunity for a highly innovative and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to work as a clinical specialist in our mainstream schools service.

The post holder will work in a small number of mainstream primary schools and be allocated time in their job plan to support the Clinical and Team leads taking a role in triaging referrals, recruitment, supervision and co-ordinating training and staff induction.

The post holder will lead on setting up our new DLD pathway as well as contribute to developments such as promoting neurodiverse-affirming practice within the team and helping to embed a tiered model of support across the borough.

The post is based in Islington; an inner-London borough which is vibrant and diverse. The Mainstream Therapies Team provides a multi-disciplinary service for children with additional needs and disabilities. You will be working alongside both Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists.

We are renowned for being a friendly and supportive team, as evidenced by winning the Whittington Health AHP Awards Team of the Year in 2023, for innovation, dedication, and supportive team environment.

The post holder will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive and highly specialist therapy service consisting of assessment, diagnosis and intervention for individual children as well as providing a support service to schools themselves to enable them to meet the needs of all pupils with SLCN.

They will also provide support to the Clinical and Team Lead to operationally manage the Speech and Language Therapy team, for example providing supervision and support to less experienced members of the team, triaging new referrals and supporting with recruitment, induction and clinical service development.

The post holder will be an autonomous practitioner and is responsible for organising and managing his/her own caseload in up to 5 schools, working from a central base.

S/he will take a lead on a specific clinical area of need in the team.

S/he will need highly specialist knowledge in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of developmental language disorders, and social communication difficulties including those associated with Autistic spectrum disorders and selective mutism.

S/he will also need to be knowledgeable and experienced in assessing, treating and managing children who have associated syndromes or special educational needs.

Islington is part of Whittington Health, an Integrated Care Organisation (ICO) which includes Islington community services, Haringey community services, Camden speech and language therapy services, Barnet children's integrated therapies, and Whittington hospital services.

Islington Additional Needs and Disability Service (IANDS) provides a multi-agency team approach to working with babies, children and young people who present with a wide range of needs.

The service consists of several teams. Multi-disciplinary Team Leads are responsible for the day to day running and management of the teams. Clinical Leads for professional leadership represent specific disciplines and specialisms.

As a service we offer:
