    Summary of the Senior Network Engineer role

    As the Senior Network Engineer, you will report directly to the IT Infrastructure Manager, working as part of our Global Digital Services team where you will be responsible for ensuring a smooth operation of the Group Data LAN/WAN infrastructure in a fast-paced environment, with the goal of achieving maximum availability of all voice and data networks across the business.

    This includes tasks such as installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimising all network hardware, software and communication links.

    You will also collaborate with the Service Desk to analyse and resolve end-user hardware and software computer issues promptly and accurately and provide end-user training as needed.

    The role will be based at our site in Cramlington, Northumberland but will have a global remit supporting our 6 global sites and therefore travel will be required.

    Performing network maintenance and configuration.
    Interacting and negotiating with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
    Conducting research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
    Performing LAN/WAN - network design, provisioning and installation.
    Ensuring that LAN/WAN management, monitoring and configurations are compatible and consistent with our global standards.

    Assisting with installation, configuration, and management of all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, wireless hubs and UPSs.

    Investigating and troubleshooting network problems and performing LAN/WAN communication repair during and after hours.
    Monitoring and testing network performance.
    Assisting with network improvements, upgrades and repairs.
    Providing server/systems support when appropriate and providing helpdesk and network/desktop support.
    Assisting other IT staff in implementing and designing network and system solutions.
    Helping establish and maintain network and server documentation, SOPs, and procedures.

    Working with local site consultants to develop local and remote network policies and assisting with monitoring, updating, and configuring the network.

    Degree in Computer Science or related field with experience in network administration.
    Administration - Firewalls/Routers/Switches (CCNA to CCNP Level Experience).
    Layer 1 build-outs and working with contractors for installation.
    Network security.

    Hand on experience at desktop level, including installing and upgrading software, installing hardware, implementing file backups, and configuring systems and applications.

    Ability to present ideas in a user-friendly language to non-technical staff and end users.
