    Job summary

    There are x2 posts available for roles as an IMT3 or ST4+ level trainee in general & geriatric medicine.

    The post holder will be expected to work across the medicine for the elderly wards, rehabilitation unit and outpatients. They will work closely with the multidisciplinary therapy team and will have close supervision and training from the Geriatrics Consultants. If the post holder is keen to pursue a career in geriatric medicine, they will be supported and encouraged in gaining subspecialty experience and in applying for a training post if they so wish. They will participate in the acute general medicine registrar on call rota.

    Main duties of the job

    The role is of an IMT3 or ST4+ level trainee in general & geriatric medicine. The post-holder will join the current team of junior doctors in the Elderly Medicine Department. They will be based on the medicine for the elderly wards, acute frailty, and surgical liaison services. There will also be opportunities to attend clinics.

    Post 1: primarily involves inpatient ward work in the Medicine for the Elderly wards (Witherow, Lewis Loyd, Thistle) as well as the acute Frailty team and surgical/orthopaedic liaison. As part of the Elderly Medicine team, the post holder will also work closely with therapies, discharge team and social workers as well as liaise with community teams. Inpatient and outpatient duties are all well supported by a consultant Geriatrician.

    Post 2: primarily involves inpatient ward work in the surgical liaison department; orthogeriatrics, major trauma surgical liaison and surgical stepdown unit.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • On GMC Register with license to practice
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Academic achievements including research/publications

  • Evidence of achievement appropriate to level of appointment at ICHNT
  • Language

    Essential

  • Are able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfill the job requirements
  • Clinical Skills

    Essential

  • Competent in performing and teaching basic clinical procedures
  • Ability to manage safely, and appropriately elderly patients.
  • Ability to manage acutely unwell patients and escalate care where needed
  • Aware of own limitations, consults senior colleagues appropriately
  • Relevant experience in specialty/Sub specialty

  • Must have at least completed Foundation training, IMT 1& 2 or equivalent
  • MRCP Part 1 and 2 (written)
  • Experience at SHO level in Elderly Medicine essential
