Head of Commercial


Reporting into the Managing Director, and part of the senior management team this role is responsible for leading product, pricing and commercial strategy, maximising commercial relationships with key suppliers and for the overall pricing and margin strategy.

Drive growth through the development of new and existing propositions, focusing on building value propositions that meet the needs of sports fans.

Leading a team of product managers, the applicant must have a passion for developing and managing a team in a fast paced and high-performance environment.


Responsibilities

  • Communicate and gain support for the adoption of the commercial strategy including setting relevant KPIs and targets and putting in place effective measurement and reporting.
  • Create a high performing team culture across the commercial team, through regular team meetings, 121s and monthly updates.
  • Coach and develop the team to deliver against commercial and personal development goals and objectives.
  • Ensure the most effective and efficient relationships with internal and external key stakeholders.
  • High degree of autonomy, taking responsibility for making decisions using experience and initiative.
  • Working with the Head of Marketing, develop a sustainable acquisition and retention model with clear return on advertising spend, linked to revenue, margin and ancillary income.
  • Develop products to maximise ancillary income and additional revenue.
  • Identify opportunities for improved service, efficiency, productivity and cost reduction.
  • Lead the pricing strategy and maximise opportunities.
  • Work with finance team to develop budgets and regular reforecasts.
  • Responsible for ensuring that any improvements / changes within the products have no negative impact on the delivery of service to our clients/suppliers.
  • Actively and confidently communicate within and outside the company to create great networks that bring opportunity for new ideas, understanding of current market conditions and our positioning within it. Taking appropriate action on any feedback received
  • Communicate effectively at a senior level, providing confident presentation of performance, strategic direction, new ideas and issue resolution in the Business Updates

  • Experience leading a product/commercial team in travel, hospitality or sport.
  • Previous product management experience with strong analytical skills.
  • Strong commercial acumen and significant experience within a commercial operations role.
  • Experience working within a direct to consumer ecommerce business model. Understanding of the trading levers within ecommerce businesses.
  • A customercentric thinker with the ability to balance the commercial needs of the business with those of a client.
  • Experience of using customer feedback, market research and NPS to develop compelling and profitable customer products and propositions.
  • Experienced using Microsoft products including Word, Excel, Office, PowerPoint and Outlook and MI reporting tools
  • Strong understanding of data and analytics in a business environment.
  • Experience of website content management systems and booking/inventory management systems.
  • Experience of digital marketing, CRM and loyalty.
  • High level of personal organization, time management, multitasking and work load prioritisation.
  • Ability to work under pressure & react quickly to change.
  • Selfmotivated.
  • Positive and helpful attitude, a good ambassador for the business.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
