To provide a quality service that supports the Pre op Diabetes Service with their audits, typing up of letters, and administrative work.

The applicant will need to have and NVQ level 2 in admin or demonstrable admin experience.

  • Prioritise the work to support the Preoperative Diabetes Specialist Nurses, (Dsn's) with relevant audits and provide administrative support.
  • To also provide clerical support to other Dsn's as required
  • The ability to communicate with Multi-Disciplinary team members.
  • The ability to work to time and targets is an essential attribute.
  • The role is a very busy one, requiring good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise.

  • Attend relevant day of surgery areas to identify diabetes patients to add an alert on the IPM system, first checking Gp summary letters which state the Type of diabetes (if in doubt discuss with Dsn).
  • Type GP/Practice nurse letters dictated on Big Hand.
  • Order main notes and file pre op paperwork ready for the patients to come in date.
  • File completed pre operative paperwork and typed letters into main notes once patient is discharged and audit completed.
  • Type and send 'at risk of diabetes' Gp letters and file into main notes.
  • For 'New Type 2 diagnosis patients' discuss with Dsn, type Gp letter and file into main notes.
  • Visit wards to ensure that there are supplies of Self administration of Insulin paperwork is available and liaise with the ward administrators as required to order copies.

  • Take part in any appropriate departmental training and demonstrate own activities to new starters or less experienced staff.
  • Provide administrative services for the Diabetes team as required e.g. photocopying
filing.

  • Be familiar with and adhere to the Health and Safety Policy and other Trust policies and procedures.
  • Supporting and enhancing the continual quality initiative ensuring a "quality first" approach to all aspects of work.
  • This post is a Trust appointment and as such the post holder may be required to work in other areas of the Trust
