Engineering Teacher - United Kingdom - Midsomer Norton Primary

    Default job background
    Description

Somerset Studio School is a unique and small specialist Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics school with students' pastoral care, educational needs and personal future aspirations at its very heart. We have a small team of 21 staff and just 126 students on roll, aged 14 to 19 years and we serve the communities of Radstock, Frome, Midsomer Norton and surrounding villages.

Would you like to work in a school with a unique vision for the future?

    WHY SHOULD YOU CHOOSE US

We have industry standard machinery and equipment including fifteen 3D printers, two laser cutters, three Bridgeport Vertical millers, three Colchester manual lathes and CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) 5-axis milling machines and lathes, waterjet cutter and high spec PCs for the use of every taught student. The machinery and equipment is localised in an open plan single room to facilitate independent, real-life Engineering skill development, fit for the future. In addition to this, the department consists exclusively of graduate Engineers, with a wide range of specialisa. We are looking for a passionate teacher of Engineering with any of the following: physics, maths and/or technology teaching. Ideally, an Engineering graduate, though a science graduate may well have the credentials needed for this role. We are not entirely bound by the usual performance measures of mainstream schools because of our specialist curriculum and unique mission. Our focus on the "purpose" and "context" of learning leads to high levels of engagement and an ethos built on mutual respect, rather than compliance. Many of our students have previously not thrived in large mainstream schools and, in this small, safe environment, we have the unique ability to understand every young person individually, their dreams, ambitions, challenges and strengths.
