    Job summary

    Interview to be held on the 4th June 2024

    We are seeking applicants for a full-time (10 PA) post in Paediatric Endocrinology at Alder Hey Children's Hospital. The successful applicant will be expected to support general endocrinology and sub-specialty work along with endocrine consultant on-call.

    Main duties of the job

    The post will be based within the Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust.

    The job plan will include at least 3 paediatric endocrine clinics per week. There will be on-call commitment.

    Accountability - The post holder will report through the Clinical Lead to the Divisional Director of Medicine and to the Chief Executive with professional support from the Medical Director.

    Teaching & Academic role

    Participate in the teaching and training of undergraduates and postgraduates.

    Develop research interests in their area of interest and expertise

    Managerial responsibilities

    Supervise junior staff.

    Participate in departmental meetings related to strategic planning.

    Take an active role in service review and development

    CPD, Audit & Clinical Governance

    Participate in CPD activity for which financial support is available

    Initiate and undertake appropriate audits as required within the department.

    Take part in the clinical governance programme

    Job responsibilities

    This post attracts 10 programmed activities per week. There may be the opportunity to discuss and review this with the clinical director.

    The job plan for the first three months will be based on a provisional/indicative timetable. A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee and the Clinical Director within three months of the commencement date of the appointee.

    The supporting professional activities (SPAs) allocation within the provisional job plan is an

    illustrative guide only and will be finalised following individual agreement with successful candidate.

    The basic template for new consultants is SPA. Any additional SPA time in the Job Plan is linked to defined roles with clear objectives.

    Education and Training

    Essential

  • -Full GMC registration with licence to practice
  • -Primary medical degree
  • -On the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of CCT at time of scheduled interview
  • Desirable

  • -Higher Degree MSc
  • -DCH, DCCH, MBA or other relevant diplomas
  • -Teaching qualification
  • Experience

    Essential

  • -Minimum of 5 years in recognized training posts in Paediatrics including Higher Specialist Training in endocrinology for a minimum period of 2 years in line with the recommendations of RCPCH and BSPED for a tertiary paediatric endocrinologist
  • -Experience in undergraduate teaching
  • -Demonstrates an understanding of the principles of supervision and delegation and inspires confidence
  • -Provide evidence of continuing personal development including involvement in appropriate audit and research
