    This is a rare opportunity for a skilled Radiographer to lead a highly specialised Nuclear Medicine Service.

    We are looking for an HCPC Registered Radiographer to act as the Nuclear Medicine Lead Radiographer. You will posses a BSc in Radiography (or equivalent qualification) with a Post Graduate qualification in Nuclear Medicine. In addition to this, you will also have extensive experience with Nuclear Medicine, preferably with experience of CT. A management qualification or management experience is needed to support the role.

    Lancashire Teaching Hospitals provides hospital services to 370,000 people in Preston and Chorley area as well as Specialist services- Major Trauma, Vascular, Oncology, Neurosciences, Plastics to 1.5 million people across Lancashire and South Cumbria.

    The Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Nuclear Medicine department is based at The Royal Preston Hospital and boasts 2 state of the artGE Discovery 870DR scanners delivering a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic scans, supporting the specialist services the Trust provides to patients across Lancashire & South Cumbria & beyond.

    Main duties of the job The Lead radiographer is responsible for managing all aspects of the specific assigned service within Radiology including the supporting team of staff.

    Provide effective leadership, support and direction to the team, acting as Lead Clinical and Operational Practitioner, a role model and patient advocate.

    They will be responsible for the planning and allocation of the workload for the hours of work associated with this service and monitoring the budget for this area.

    They will be responsible for the management, supervision and development of the team of staff. This includes highly skilled and specialised Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners and Imaging Department assistants.

    They will monitor and maintain standards of professional practice and deploy staff assuring standards are met.

    Manage improvements and change, brought about by commitment to and compliance with clinical governance and government NHS plans.

    • Manage the service in a safe, effective manner including management of personnel, facilities and the associated systems and processes
    • Be responsible for the delivery and coordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by all staff within the team.
    • Ensure a high radiographic standard is delivered by self and others within the team based on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of standards to meet patients needs in accordance with agreed local and national standards and evidence based guidelines.
    • Set, monitor and maintain standards of care to improve the (patient experience and )outcome of care
    • Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
    • Communicate with (patients, relatives) and other healthcare workers to ensure appropriate dissemination of complex information, in a form and manner consistent with their level of understanding, culture, background and preferred ways of communicating.
    • To participate in development, education and training of staff and students.
    • Ensure the work area complies with the requirements of the Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017 and IR (ME) R 2017 and all Environment agency regulations- and related departmental protocols and procedures.
    • Ensure information Technology systems are used as required by self and at every level of the work area.
    • Provide support for research undertaken in department
    • Ensure robust financial controls are in place, resources are effectively utilised and relevant financial targets are achieved.

    Person Specification Qualifications Essential
    • BSc Degree in Radiography or equivalent radiographic qualification, DCR(R)
    • HCPC Registered
    • Post graduate qualification in Nuclear Medicine
    • Leadership or Management Experience
    Desirable
    • Attendance at conferences
    Knowledge Essential
    • Extensive post qualification experience in Nuclear Medicine radiography and preferably CT
    • Evidence of clinical competence in area of speciality supported by CPD.
    • Knowledge of IR(ME)R and IRR.
    • Supervisory/Management experience.
    • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and the relevance to practice.
    • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures.
    • Knowledge of ethical issues.
    Desirable
    • Experience of managing a clinical area.
    • Experience of budgetary management.
    • Experience in research and development
