  • Vacancy ID We are cirrently recruiting for a temporary Deputy Editor for the University Gazette and Internal Communications Manager to work on site at one of our Centrally based departments starting ASAP for approx 12 weeks working 37.5 hrs p/w and paying £19.

Duties:

Undertake and be solely responsible for the production of the weekly _Gazette_
on days when the Editor is not in the office, and work closely with the Editor during the rest of the week


This will include:
- preparing and editing copy for inclusion in the_ Gazette_ and creating issues in InDesign for publication as PDFs
- signing off _Gazette_ issues for print publication and distribution
- publishing on the web, maintaining and updating webpages
- jointly with the Editor, creating the 2023 edition of the University Calendar, working in Excel and in InDesign to prepare content for publication and producing two indexes
- soliciting, compiling and editing information from departments, colleges and committees in order to update the entries, jointly with the Editor
Internal Communications
- editing and proofreading a range of communications materials for internal and external audiences
- engaging with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, providing tailored information and negotiating content inclusion in University publications
- maintaining communications channels for internal audiences, working closely with communications professionals in other parts of the University
- creating and publishing content to the University's website
- contributing to other regular communications managed by the Internal Communications team
- any other communications duties as requested by the Gazette Editor

  • Person specification

Essential Criteria

  • A clear understanding of the standard rules of grammar, punctuation and spelling
  • Proven and direct experience of copyediting and proofreading and ability to copyedit and proofread quickly, accurately and to a professional standard
  • Understanding of the concept of 'house style' preferably experience of working within a style
