    The role:

    As a Scrum Master you'll manage and support all Scrum activity within our technical delivery teams.

    As part of Hiscox UK IT, and reporting to the Agile Practice Lead, you will be responsible for the coordination and day-to-day activities of distributed squads, comprised of Software, Data, DevOps and QA Engineers, Data Scientists and Architects. You will work with the Squads to drive delivery of multiple features and business value across varied innovation Value Streams. Within this business-critical coordination and coaching here is what you'll be doing:

  • Guide and support a cross-disciplined squad employing agile values, principles and practices to deliver value to our business
  • Ensure stakeholder engagement, communications and expectations are appropriately managed and aligned
  • Facilitate a squad's daily scrum, refinement, sprint planning, sprint review and retrospective; ensuring actions from the sprint retrospectives are prioritised and implemented as backlog items
  • Co-ordinate shared release management activities across multiple squads.
  • Work with the other members of the Agile Chapter to share knowledge, best practices and develop as a team
  • Actively participate in the wider Agile / Dev Ops community to aid continuous learning, innovation, best practice and alignment with Hiscox Development teams
  • Work with the wider PMO organisation within Hiscox – to ensure change delivery frameworks fully support Agile methodologies and ways of working
  • Help the squad to meet their commitments and sprint goals, removing impediments and dependencies as much as possible, escalating where appropriate when the squad is off track, and ensure appropriate action is executed
  • Embrace change and support the Hiscox UK vision and strategy
  • Identify and drive Improvement activities
  • Apply principles and practices to break down large change into valuable stories
  • Manage late and ad-hoc requests by working with the Product Owner to balance business priorities against existing commitments
  • Protect the squads from external interference
  • Work closely with the Product Owner to ensure forthcoming Sprints are populated and ready for delivery, the backlog is ordered and refined in time for sprint planning and resource allocation is in place to deliver work
  • Work closely with other members of IT to facilitate timely delivery of requests and time resourcing
  • Manage and resolve dependencies between squads, working closely with other squad Scrum Masters
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of system/reporting updates and squad administration – including any PMO type admin and reporting that still requires regular inputs from the squad
  • Our must haves:

  • Previous knowledge/experience of working with Agile practices and a Scrum framework
  • Experience in a Product Delivery orientated and/or Scrum Master Role or evidence of similar skills \ experience
  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills
  • Social, engaging and naturally collaborative with the ability to be a servant leader, organising and motivating the squad without the use of authority
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills ensuring confidence in conflict resolution and the ability to tailor own style to the audience
  • Working Knowledge of the Agile world and the benefits to Agile product delivery
  • Engaging, creative facilitation experience both for in person and virtual settings.
  • Our nice to haves:

  • Experience with agile project management and collaboration tools (e.g. JIRA, Confluence, Miro)
  • Strong stakeholder management and use of OKRs
