    Principal Electrical Engineer- Long Term Contract- Outside of Scope of IR35- Hybrid/ Remote

    Due to continued growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal/Lead Electrical Engineer to join one of the UK's leading construction and engineering solutions company on a long term contract basis.

    As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in providing technical expertise and leadership in the electrical discipline for various projects and proposals. Your responsibilities will encompass overseeing the electrical engineering aspects of projects, ensuring adherence to relevant standards and regulations, and delivering high-quality solutions to meet client requirements. As a client facing Principal Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for the electrical discipline technical input for projects and/or proposals; including preparation, checking and/or approval of engineering documentation.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Take lead responsibility for providing technical input in the electrical discipline for projects and proposals, including the preparation, verification, and approval of engineering documentation.
    • Allocate tasks efficiently and ensure timely delivery according to project plans.
    • Execute electrical engineering tasks to a high standard, meeting project schedules, budgets, and client expectations.
    • Ensure compliance with national and international codes of practice, legislation, and company/client standards.
    • Prepare requisitions for electrical equipment and materials, including HV and LV switchboards, transformers, UPS systems, power factor correction, and lighting.
    • Develop installation scopes of work and evaluate technical bids from suppliers.
    • Conduct critical studies such as protection grading studies and power system analysis.
    • Provide support to site teams on operational issues and oversee verification and validation activities.

    Qualifications:

    • A degree in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g., Electronic / Electrical / Control Engineering). Consideration may be given to candidates with apprenticeships or equivalent experience.
    • Experience is HV (33kV and below) system design
    • Experience in HV protection systems including protection schematics, grading studies and protection settings schedules
    • Experience in detailed design of plants with large electrical networks
    • Experience is in earthing calculations and system design
    • Chartered or Incorporated engineer status with a relevant professional body or evidence of being close to gaining these professional titles.
    • Good knowledge of design working practices and installation requirements of the discipline in the oil and gas / energy sector
    • Extensive knowledge of UK legislation and standards.
    • Competence in the requirements for installation of equipment in process plants involving potentially explosive areas Experience in the requirements for CE marking of plant and equipment, including Atex, PED, Low Voltage Directive, Machinery Directive and EMC Compliance Awareness of risk identification, quantification, management and of HSE requirements.
