Work With Us

We are on the search for a passionate and enthusiastic youth worker to join our team in the role of Project Coordinator.

This is a fantastic opportunity to enhance the lives and prospects of young people in Dorchester and the surrounding villages.

We want someone who is passionate, committed and understands the issues facing local young people.

The role

You will lead a major project, Networks, which we have just obtained 5 year funding for from National Lottery Reaching Communities England.

Networks will run drop in sessions and provide other support to young people who are Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET).

The project is about supporting young people to identify and overcome the barriers which are preventing them from achieving their goals.

You will also coordinate the delivery of several other DYCC projects including one for the Gypsy-Roma-Traveller camp at Piddlehinton. The post is for 25 hours per week, 40 weeks per year. The hours will be mostly worked during the day but some evening hours may be required.

You will:

  • Lead the delivery of Networks.
  • Lead the delivery of the GRT camp project.
  • Assist with the management and further development of these and other projects across DYCC.
  • Lead a team of Youth Workers and volunteers on these projects, manage rotas and provide supervision.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching and support to individual young people, encouraging them to develop their selfawareness, independence and individuality.
  • Develop and maintain strong community relationships with external stakeholders, eg schools and colleges, and develop relationships within youth sector networks in Dorset.
  • Stay informed on legislation, local and national issues, and best practice in youth work.
  • Lead on all mental health work carried out by DYCC (Young Peoples' Mental Health First Aid training will be provided); deliver mental health sessions with young people in groups and on a onetoone basis.
  • Identify where Targeted Youth Support is needed, facilitate referrals to appropriate agencies, and ensure safeguarding policy is followed.
  • Ensure that all projects are properly documented, delivered within budget, all safeguarding and Health and Safety requirements are met, and that work is evaluated and reported in accordance with contractual and funding commitments; help set up and maintain record systems.
  • Work with the team to enable DYCC to become a sustainable and robust organisation.
Pay will be £14.00 per hour for hours worked. Holiday pay (12%) will be paid in addition.

The Charity
Dorchester Youth and Community Centre has been run by a charitable trust since September 2016.

We aim to provide a truly inclusive, fun and safe place where young people can spend time with their friends and participate in fun activities.

Closing date: 7 April 2023.

Due to the nature of the work all successful applicants for paid and voluntary positions will be required to undertake a DBS enhanced disclosure.
