Join us as our Head of Design and Research

  • To do this, you'll work in the Digital Experience and Design Leadership team and collaborate with the Head of Digital Experience to deliver great business and client outcomes

What you'll do:


Day-to-day, you'll lead a team of designers and researchers and provide vision and direction to establish principles, standards and processes to continuously improve the quality of our experiences.

You'll also be accountable for resource planning, prioritisation and status updates to ensure our operational efficiency.


Working with other experts across the digital experience, journeys, marketing and engineering, you'll ensure that product designs and research are embedded into the decision-making process to lead to measurable business and client outcomes.


Your top priorities will include:

  • Leading complex strategic initiatives and overseeing the endtoend design process across multiple teams and products, while aligning them with our brand and bank's principles
  • Managing the design strategy and its delivery across our core banking products, investments, internal tooling and the Coutts website
  • Promoting a culture of continous improvement that's in line with client feedback, performance data and evolving industry best practices
  • Overseeing our research and testing activities by using a variety of techniques and tools to understand and communicate the needs of our clients
  • Coaching teams and identifying new ways to help them to progress in their careers through structured goals and objectives

The skills you'll need:

To be successful in this role, your knowledge, experience and leadership qualities will be key. So, you'll need a background of being a creative leader who can thrive in a corporate environment.


In addition, you'll need:

  • Experience of leading and scaling exceptional product design and research teams
  • Knowledge of design processes, methods, tooling, insights and key trends
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, coupled with the ability to influence and persuade at an executive level and challenge conventional thinking
  • An understanding of how to effectively collaborate with a diverse set of colleagues and partners
  • Experience of implementing WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards
