Job Type:PermanentOur very friendly team in Greenwich borough is looking for a Referral and Advice Worker to deliver a high quality telephone referral line service, including a full needs and risk assessment in order to provide women and children escaping domestic abuse, with a range of options including signposting to other agencies or access to refuge accommodation. This role plays a key part in being the first step for women who have experienced domestic abuse to move forward


Key responsibilities include:


  • Provide effective telephone advice, information and support to women and children who are living with or fleeing domestic abuse
  • Advise women and professionals via telephone on options for staying safe and independent or to access refuge accommodation.
  • Provide effective telephone advice, information and support to other statutory and voluntary agencies who are seeking advice for their clients who may be experiencing or escaping domestic abuse
  • Cover the Referral and Information line working either 9:00am5:00pm or 10:00am
  • 6:00pm

To be successful in this job you will require:

  • Experience of delivering support to adults from diverse backgrounds and with mixed abilities and complex needs in a supported environment, preferably in Domestic Violence Abuse (DVA) refuges.
  • Demonstrable experience in providing support and assessing needs and risks over the telephone.
  • Demonstrable experience of undertaking individual assessments including risk assessments and developing and delivering support plans.
  • Understanding of local and national approaches to tackling domestic abuse including MARAC, child protection, social and voluntary services approaches/involvement
  • Excellent communication skills

Full Job Description

Overall Aim

  • Deliver high quality and indepth telephone and facetoface needs and risk assessments in order to place women and children escaping DVA in the most appropriate service for their needs.
  • Advise women and professionals via telephone on options for staying safe and independent or to access refuge accommodation.
  • Work with the RB Greenwich's Housing Options Team to assess the suitability of referrals for the borough's Sanctuary scheme and liaise with the appropriate RBG teams to install required security/devices.
  • To provide cover for Support Workers across the DVA services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver a high quality referral line service, including a full needs and risk assessment in order to provide women with a range of appropriate options including signposting to other agencies and access to refuge accommodation
  • Provide effective telephone advice, information and support to women and children who are living with or fleeing domestic violence
  • Provide effective telephone advice, information and support to other statutory and voluntary agencies who are seeking advice for their clients who may be experiencing or escaping domestic abuse
  • Cover the Referral and Information line from 9:00 to 17:00 or 10:00 to 18:00.

Develop and Maintain Information Resources

  • Collate and maintain an electronic and hard copy database of resources and services in RB Greenwich and London / National (as appropriate) for women and their children experiencing DVA, that staff and service users can access
  • Update the whole DVA staff team regularly on any changes to information, resources and systems
  • Take responsibility for keeping up to date with developments in DVA work, including reading, attending conferences and learning events
  • Update and maintain the GDVA website; keep up to date with social media, campaigns and advise on safe methods of communication.

Customer focus

  • Support the team on the effective day to day management and smooth operation of the refuge and provide effective support to women living in their homes
  • Manage own case load, key working women using individual support plans
  • Issue occupancy agreements (refuges only) and induct new service users into the service
  • Ensure the provision of practical and emotional support to vulnerable women and their children/dependents:
  • carry out regular risk assessments and promote the safety of women and their children, assisting them in safety planning
- assist women in the community to access any additional security measures and Sanctuary provision
- enable service users to access appropriate health care and spec
