This position is for a Vascular Associate Practitioner/Vascular Practitioner who will be expected to complete a Healthcare Science Practitioner apprenticeship (BSc) in Vascular Science (fully funded) -Healthcare Science Practitioner Apprenticeship (Vascular Science) BSc (Hons) - University of Gloucestershire ).

Depending on current qualifications and experience the apprentice will employed at the appropriate banding:

Band 4 Vascular Associate Practitioner:
Level 3 Vocational Qualification or equivalent level of knowledge/experience (eg Level 3 Diploma for Health Screeners). You will receive full training for the three years, becoming a qualified Vascular Practitioner (BSc) on completion.

Training will be provided from both in-house and external training providers with study time allocated to support completion of the BSc qualification.


Band 5 Vascular Practitioner:
Degree level qualification or equivalent level of knowledge/experience. Direct experience/qualification in independently performing, interpreting and reporting diagnostic vascular specific ultrasound assessments in a clinical environment. You will receive full training for the three years, becoming a qualified Vascular Practitioner (BSc) on completion.

Training will be provided from both in-house and external training providers with study time allocated to support completion of the BSc qualification.


The Vascular Science Unit (VSU) is committed to providing high quality vascular assessments for the population of central Bristol, south Bristol and North Somerset.

The clinical scope of the vascular practitioner role will be predominantly working directly with patients to perform vascular ultrasound assessments.


These tests will include:

ankle-brachial pressure index (ABPI) and toe-brachial index (TBI) assessment and ultrasound duplex scans for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA), carotid artery disease and lower limb deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

Alongside clinical work, the vascular practitioner will be expected to undertake a fully funded Healthcare Science Practitioner Apprenticeship (BSc) in Vascular Science delivered by University of Gloucestershire over the course of three years (distanced learning programme with periodic face to face teaching throughout the year).
