Metallurgist, Senior Metallurgist - Metallurgical Failure Analysis

TUV Rheinland UK is seeking an experienced metallurgist (permanent role) to take up a senior position in its expanding Asset Integrity Management team based in Derby, UK.

Most the team's activities are focussed on the Conventional Power and Clean Energy sectors (primarily CCGT, Biomass and Energy from Waste plants).

Power Plant industry i.e., Nuclear, Fossil Fired & Combined Cycle, Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Aerospace or Marine.

As a Metallurgist / Senior Metallurgist looking to progress in their career, we are primarily looking for candidates who can perform metallurgical failure investigations on a wide range of components, and recommend specific corrective actions / strategies to avert further failures.

As well as an extensive technical knowledge, the role requires that the successful candidate must also possess excellent communication and report writing skills.

Ferrous metallurgy experience in high temperature degradation mechanisms, including creep, and corrosion in biomass / energy from waste boilers.
A power plant background. Alternatively, experience of damage / degradation mechanisms and life assessment associated with the oil & gas, petro-chem.
Producing formal technical reports and other project deliverables on time and to budget.
Managing larger, project-based investigations.

The role may occasionally involve short periods of travel, both within the UK and abroad, to meet project requirements.

Minimum of a degree in metallurgy, materials science, materials engineering or related discipline

Minimum of 5 years' industrial Failure Analysis Ideally this would be related to the power industry (although other large industrial sectors such as petro-chem, oil & gas, aerospace may be considered depending on experience).A competitive package of salary and benefits is offered for permanent staff, including profit share, private medical insurance, and contributions into a pension scheme.
