JOB PURPOSE:


The overall job purpose is to ensure that
every day is a quality, safe, enjoyable, and enriching day and to drive forward rapid and sustainable Academy improvement so that Oasis Academy Woodview quickly becomes
an exceptional Academy at the heart of its community.


Specifically the Head of School (Associate Principal) will be responsible to the Executive Principal for the operational leadership, management and control of the Academy.

Working alongside the Executive Principal the Head of School (Associate Principal) will lead the staff in rapidly realising the vision of establishing and developing a unique, extended learning community which will cater for the whole person - academically, vocationally, socially, morally, spiritually, physically, emotionally and environmentally.


It will also be vital for the Head of School (Associate Principal) to ensure that the Oasis ethos of equality, inclusion, compassion, transformation and perseverance, and the values that flow from it permeates every aspect of the Academy's life.

Chief amongst these will be the valuing of each individual student, member of staff, parent/carer and member of the community and seeking to encourage them in every possible way to fulfil their full potential.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


In seeking to realise this vision the Head of School (Associate Principal) would be expected to carry out the following duties and to recognise that the list is only indicative and that there might be other, similar duties which the Head of School (Associate Principal) might be required to carry out.

The Head of School (Associate Principal) will be responsible for:

A Strategy

  • Supporting the Executive Principal to formulate the aims and objectives of the Academy against the Purpose, Ethos and Values of the Academy, as well as the overarching Educational Principles.
  • Supporting the Executive Principal in producing and implementing the Academy One Plan, setting strategic targets and performance indicators.
  • Making the Academy a unique model of learning for the community by integrating adults and students in line with the founding principles.
  • Leading and inspiring the staff by their example and encouraging them to achieve the highest personal and professional standards at all times.

B Staff

  • Supporting the Executive Principal in ensuring that the Academy is adequately and appropriately staffed, recruiting as necessary in accordance with Oasis Community Learning's PD policies and procedures.
  • Encouraging team development and an ethos which enables everyone to work collaboratively and accept responsibility for shared outcomes across the full age range.
  • Managing the deployment of all staff; delegating duties as appropriate to senior colleagues and, in particular, making arrangements for the Executive Principal to deputise for the Executive Principal in the event of their absence from the Academy.
  • Ensuring that all staff (teachers and support staff) at the Academy receive appropriate information and training to enable them to carry out their professional duties.
  • Liaising as appropriate with all staff Unions or Associations.
  • Working with the central PD Department in assessing teachers according to the arrangements published from time to time in the "School Teachers' Pay and Conditions" documents to determine their progress on the national pay scales, in line with an agreed Performance Management Policy. Also ensuring that support staff are afforded similar progress in line with an agreed Performance Management Policy relevant to them.

C Students

  • Ensuring that the Academy has in place an effective system of pastoral care for all students; providing appropriate support, encouragement, advice and guidance in respect of course choice and the transition from the Academy to the world of work, training, Further or Higher education, as well as their personal and spiritual development.
  • Creating ways for students to be actively involved in the Academy decisionmaking process and for their views on the learning process to be listened to and respected.
